Can anyone advise about where to buy a mobile phone? What sort of details do you have to give, and any info re the packages on offer would be appericated.

Hi Tricia

We bought ours in the Phone House in Cartagena. We bought a handset & sim card for about 25 euros but the sim card had 15 euros credit on it. There will be plenty of places in Vera/Mojacar where you can buy them as well.

We are on the Happy Movil tariff which is something like 3 or 5 cents per minute to phone the UK & Ireland. We are able to top it up at the Phone House or at branches of La Caixa Bank through their cash machines.

It is well worth getting a Spanish mobile because not only is it cheaper for phoning home, it is also cheaper if you have to phone within Spain for things such as booking restaurants etc.

At the time that we bought ours we didn't have to give any dertails but I know that this has changed. I would suggest having your passport & NIE number with you & maybe any bill with you Veranda address on it.

Noreen

Thanks Noreen, I will check it out at Easter, As I will be out there for a month during the summer I do think it would be well worth my while.

We have also talked about getting a Spanish mobile as it would save us quite a bit.  We made some enquiries at the Orange shop in Vera but they said they only did contract, which we don't really want.  There are a couple of shops in the Eroski shopping mall in Aguilas so perhaps we'll try there when we are out in March.  How do you ask for 'Pay as you go ' in Spanish??????????

A ¨Pay as You Go¨ is Movil de Tarjeta or you could just say ¨Sin Contrato¨.  There is a Vodafone shop in Vera just around the corner from the Orange shop, it is opposite the Wok on the road going past Dia and up to all the car dealers.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.  We'll take a look when we are out in a few weeks time.
