The Surgery - Time for Action?

Couldn't let this week-end pass by without a few words on our beloved "Surgery".   This week-end so the place plummit to new depths of despair.  As forecasted on E-O-S recently the place was packed on several nights, but only staffed with Herbert.....who clearly cannot handle any more than 1 customer at any one time.  The average wait to be served on Sat night was 30 mins. The place also ran out of beer, cider, baileys on Sat night.  Fair enough......but on Sunday it was still as bad, with only the Beer back on.  Resorted to ordering double orders. Closing time issue was no better - Sunday we managed to strtch him to 11.30. 

The place is so bad & embarrasing it has now become amusing!!   We had a couple of friends with us on this trip - who couldn't believe how bad it was.  They now have a really bad impression of PW. 

I understand it is only a temp arrangment, but I for one am not 100% confident that the Foro will be open for this summer - there is still loads to do - Hopefully The Foro will be in place - but already customer services were saying June / July to me yestedrday, so I think we must take some action about improving the overall performance of The Surgery as contingency. If this is all we have for the summer then it will be a disaster for all who are planning holidays on Condado this year.   For a week-end it's no great shakes.......but for a 2~3 week stay in July / Aug.......then clearly that is unacceptable.   

We need........more staff, longer opening hours, adequete stock, improved mene (variety & cost) .......for starters, let alone the bloody prices!!.  I am happy to draft a letter to PW, but I feel we may need a campaign to force change if we fear the Foro will not be ready in time. 

Thought the course was coming along fantastic.........still major doubts about Nov though.  Met a reallly knowledgable member of the green staff on Friday, who amongst many other things, confirmed that Nov is still the target, but if not achieved, then Apr would be the next milestone - nothing in between due to lack of growth.   Lets hope Nov anyway.  Practice facilities will be first class too.

Having just spent 10 days at CDA, I can only echo the sentiments below, as Skell has summed up my fears about the completion of the Foro for the July / August holidays. The bar was desperate, even closing at 10.30 pm on the 7th, because it was too busy. I went back in twice, and vowed to my wife that I would never go in there again. Everything was diabolical. The prices are ridiculous, but the more we use it, the more PW will think that we are willing to pay their prices ongoing. We need the Foro finished by the summer holidays, and we then need non PW bars, restaraunts etc in there, to make it competative

CDA itself is superb, but badly let down by the current excuse for a focal point

I agree with most of the comments.  I can't say that I thought the prices were too bad - pretty much on par with what you would pay over in UK in a hotel bar/brasserie.  I do, however, tend to want to avoid the place more due to the clinical, atmosphereless surroundings.  Some nice soft furnishings - even rattan sofas with decent cushions and a few indoor plants/pictures etc would work wonders - would make the thought of going there so much more attractive.  If you get decent weather and can sit out then it's not quite so dreadful but otherwise it really is like a trip to the dentist....................

I also agree, however onecall, I believe the Foro will only contain Polairs World Bars and Restaurants, so we will hopefully have more choice when the Foro opens, but I wouldnt expect any lower prices!

The Oasis, if it ever arrives, would contain none Polairs Bars and Restaurants, thats when the situation should start to improve!

So dont expect any "Fair" prices on Condado for at least a couple of years.

Tend to agree but don't know about the prices - we never got as far as buying a drink ! We went on Saturday night to try and meet a few people and stood at the bar for a while waiting to be served. In the end gave up and went back to our place and had a beer there ! What is the price of a beer, lager, glass of vino, etc ?

I feel lucky to even manage to get served a drink. Yesterday they had sold out of intertnet cards!

Agree about the furniture. Is it just me or does the screeching of the chairs an issue for anybody else?

Hi ya Nick, nice to meet up the other night, sure was painful, I agree it was crazy, it got to the point when I was getting annoyed because other people were getting served before me and I had been there 20 mins before, which of course wasn't there fault but it felt like every man for himself lol, MUST BE SORTED OUT.

If people would boycott the place we may stand a better chance of getting the prices reduced. I spoke to the Director of Intercontinental who is responsible for the food outlets. (Snr. Ricardo Esteban). I pointed out that if the prices were reduced to a more reasonable level, then more people would use the place and they would make more money.

Please try and refrain from using it until we can get prices reduced. he is aware of the situation and is looking into the pricing.

Unfortunately, if no one used the surgery then for sure it will be closed down and turned into a gym etc., and many of us in the Jardines are hoping to keep the supermarket and bar at Jardines 6 when the Foro is finished.  But we have been told if PW don't get the support they will close them for sure.

Did anybody else outstay thier welcome and get thrown out by 'The Bouncer' ( the bald fella who looked like he had a roll of carpet under each arm!) or was it just the Payton's and us?  A little unnecessary I thought, but mildly amusing to see Debbies reaction:)

As for the surgery.... I may get 'shot down' for this but in the day time I throughly enjoyed sitting outside having a beer and watching my kids playing with some Spanish ones in the playarea, yes at 3.50 EUR a pint a bit pricey agreed but to boycott it, NO not for me I'm affraid.

The  problem is we don't have anywhere else to go.  We don't want to be going outside Condado every time we want one or two drinks.

The prices are not the highest in the world either, even at home some places charge more than 3.50 and a friend of mine has just got back from Almeria and they were paying €5, but yes it would be nice to lower them just a little. More important I think is the hours of business and the staff levels.  Maybe now it's getting busier at holiday times they will put more staff on?  We can only hope, put our names on your petition Skell.

Jackie, hate to burst your bubble but, when the Foro opens, you will still have to come and buy your bits and bobs from the same place as us, cos the supermarket will then be the gym, and the bar will be.........a bar for the use of the gym???  It's just this everything open to Joe Public that I'm mad about.  Well not just that, but that's the main groan at the moment

we to had a good night on saturday, and yes it is quite expensive almost 10E for a pint and a vodka tonic, however to boycott the place would just be to cut your nose off, both me and andrea were there for the weekend and we love to sit in the sun or on the terrace to have a drink, but on a saturday night (or any other night) it is nice to go out and socialise, so until someone offers up their appartment for a party for everyone to come, we will be using the surgery, we do agree that something should be done with the service, hours and also the prices but lets do it properley,(skell start a petition) and we will sign it,

Yep I was also there when we all got "escorted" off the premises by the 5 ft 4 in security officer with his plastic cups at 10.45 pm!!!!!! didn't even manage to get a drink either.......   very poor service but cheap I didn't part with a bloody euro!!!

Although the bar  is not what we expected having visited Mar Menor and La Torre, I must confess to having had a really good night in the surgery on the Tuesday.  That was until the little bouncer (yes the vicious looking one with the mean face and rolls of carpet under each arm) handed out paper cups for us to tip our drinks into at around 10.30 pm!!  I don't think so!!   What an obnoxious little terd he is!   Not sure what his job is there but heard someone say that he doesn't even work in the surgery.

We also visited the surgery on the Saturday night for the second get together but gave it up as a bad job - couldn't get anywhere near the bar and heard that people had been waiting for over half an hour to get served.  Ended up back at Steve and Nicola's apartment (srule) where we had a very pleasant evening without po-faced, obnoxious little bouncers - the kind you would expect to see in some rough, sleezy nightclub - not that I have ever visited that kind of place of course!!!

Add our names to the petition please Skell!!!  And get the bouncer sacked!

Simple answer is for people to take it in turns throwing a partddeeeeeeee as I did last time i was out. Great atmosphere, no queues, cheap but quality booze, great tunes and good company............ if you can put up with me

Well, I can only suggest a boycott and I do understand your comments but I'm thinking ahead when the irish pub and restaurants open in the shopping centre and charge high prices there too.

Will be out for 2 weeks 1 day with some friends starting 24th July.   I'm confident there will be more than 1 party that fortnight.  However only selected guests are to be invited.  Only those who support Liverpool Football Club.  Those who will not object to my very large football flag mounted on............. my very large satellite dish.  Those who will not object to me riding round on my mini motorbike............. across the seeded fairways.  Those who realise that my tatoo's on my hands only spell "LOV" and "HAT" because my 2 little fingers are missing.  Only those who call my two very big rotweillers by their proper names............. Love and Hate.  Oh yeah, and only those who I can beat at golf.

Seriously, I'm sure there will be parties out there those weeks.
