Nigel has just rang me from Puerto Banus where he's golfing with some friends. He's just had a burger which cost 15E and a  beer is 5E, so maybe the Surgery's prices aren't too bad. Let's hope the prices don't shoot up when the golf course opens!!

If anyone in there right mind would sit and pay 15 euros for a burger amazes me. this is the trouble with golf club houses, 3.50 for a beer is a rip off, it probably costs pw about 50 cents to sell a pint of beer, so the rest is pure profit, lets face it its not exactly a luxurious bar thats welcoming and comfortable to warrant paying that amount. If your friend likes paying 5 euros for a pint good luck to him and the rest of his golfing buddies, some of us more down to earth people like a drink and prefer not to be completely ripped off.

I think Cherrie was just trying to say,  there are other places more expensive than ours.

It's going to be difficult avoiding golfing buddies when we have bought on a 5* golf resort?   Sometimes when you're on holiday, you pay according to where you are whether it's a golf course or not.  June

It might only cost 50 euros for the burger but there is still electricity, wages etc

We used to holiday on the Algarve and if you went to Vale De Lobo  or Quinta da Lago It cost an awful lot more

As for the rest of the area. the prices varied but Condado is no more expensive than many of the courses there

Thanks Jan and June.  I was just trying to make the point that there are possibly more expensive places than PW. My husband (not my friend by the way) is as down to earth as the rest of them and was as shocked at the prices as anyone would be but he has no choice but to eat!!

we would all like it to be cheaper but:

did none of you go to mar menor prior to buying,

1 to play golf, it was expensive then nov 07

2 have a drink in the bar also expensive

3 dinner in the continental

4 lunch in the bistro( la torre)

for gods sake stop twisting or go buy in a lesser resort

buy cheap buy twice, pay peanuts get monkeys and so on

Hi all, we were at the scrum in the bar on Easter Sat nite and seemed to be the only ones who had a hangover the next day - all Thanks to Golfin Jim for queueing for 40 mins but coming away with 3 rounds!!  We owe you a few drinks Frank!                    Herbert also refused to take the discount card that nite (he said it was broke but I am sure he was just to busy to deal with it.).

11pm closing time is too early by any standards (I'm Irish and don't have closing times where I come from) but this could be because of the residents nearby -  does anyone know the closing times at the bars at La Torre and Mar Menor?

It was great to meet more new neighbours and we can't wait to go back next month.

One point about prices as everyone keeps saying 5 star resort so the prices should match, I personally do not class that bar as 5 star, I wouldn't go past 2 stars, I will pay for expensive drinks if there is something to go with it i.e. entertainment, comfy seats, nice decor, good service, clean tables etc. When I went in on  good friday all of the above were missing, the bar was dirty, badly run, lifeless, and expensive., and the barman started to refuse serving just after 10.30, when he switched off the bar lights. Good 5 star service, Also when I first visited Murcia to look at properties, I was taken round La Torre by a friend who had property on there, at the time the bar was only charging 2 euros for a beer, but as time has gone on they put the prices up to 4 euro's which we paid last summer when we stayed there, so work that one out. If running costs are so high, why can everywhere else charge around 2 euros, including camposol, which at least provides entertainment for children, like a pool table, which they now do in La Torre by the way. I am looking forward to the Foro opening and hopefully we will have a good range of bars etc with something for everyone, because if it isn't people trying to rent have got to take this into account.

I just can't see why a bar is required for congregation and booze ?

Meet at a different apartment every night, take your own chairs round, pick em up the next day, save a fortune, no queues, and probably speak to more people as a result, u don't speak to many people on spec in a public bar and queuing just gets peoples backs up - i await reporting of the 1st set-to when someone gets served before someone else or not served at all as HH brings down the shutters .

The surgery is crap, has been since day 1 and now it's getting busier it's deteriorating rapidly, HH is paid by the hour so he's going to stop serving at 10:30 so he can be out by 11 when PW stop paying him.

The Foro if it has a decent bar with some decent fixtures & fittings (as at Mar Menor) may well entice me however for a couple of drinks, however i suspect i'll be drinking far more on my terrace

Can I make a suggestion

We forget about the bar etc until we are in a position to influence things.

If our spanish neighbours are reading this they will be amused that we do more moaning about beer prices than the community and utilities charges.

Can we sort out a structured approach with the help of our spanish speaking neighbours to get control of what goes on in Condado and then upgrade the playing areas, heat the pools, have garden parties, tighten up the security etc etc

Meanwhile if anyone needs the comfort of a bar rather than sitting and getting to know your neighbours over a nice bottle of Lidl 65c white and wants to pay low prices go to Campasol. (sorry but I chose Condado over Campasol with its fish and chips and €2 pint of Carling for a reason and thats not decrying Camposol, its a matter of personal choice, I have very good friends there).

Sorry to be a bit pedantic but I like everyone want Condado to be the best but until we manage it ourselves we are in the hands of others with different objectives and motives.

I stayed at Condado the week leading upto Easter and visited th bar on several occasions and witnessed Hebert on one evening refuse to take an order for food from a British couple at 9.30 pm immediately after taking an order for similar food from a Spanish family. The following evening he had just served drinks to some Spanish people when at 10.38 pm he refused an order for a drink from me saying he was closing at 10.40 pm but would give no reason why.

Last week I sent an e-mail to PW complaining about the above, the prices, decor, closing time, and lack of staff at busy times etc.... Today I received a call from Polaris Worlds customer services manager who said she would forward my e-mail to the director responsible for the resort, and the manager in charge of bars and restaurants. Unfortunately I was not in a position to note her contact details but she said she would send them to me by e-mail which she hasn't todate. If and when she does I will post the details. However I sent my complaint to callcentre@polarisworld.com and it found it's way to her. If enough people complain you never know  things may get changed!

Just back from a nice week at Condado.

Basically - arrived lateish at bar on the Saturday night, took 40 minutes to get served, limited opportunities to catch up with everyone, last orders soon after first drink down, could not be hassled with that again. Spent less than 7 euros- who said it would be an expensive night !! Nice to speak to some of the folk from the forum while trying to get served at the bar, but always needed to keep one eye on Herbert.

Popped in again on Sunday night and got served within five minutes. Did not go in again for rest of week. Here's an alternative for you when you want to have a meal/few drinks in your own group or with some other folk until our facilities are what we expect. Get a taxi along to Camposol or drive and leave car and get taxi back. We did this a couple of nights with others we knew while we were there and had a great night. Next day one of you takes the car that did not get used on the night before to pick the other one up. In our case, I have my mountain bike over there and cycled to camposol along the service road (25 minutes when usingthe bottom gate and picking up a path outside jardine 1) to pick the car up and bunged the bike in the back. Great exercise and lovely scenic ride - I would not do it any other way now.

Got to remember, the surgery is only temporary so do not expect too much from it. They are not going to recruit another bar person who might only be required 2 nights a month so best to judge everything when the first of the Foro facilities are up & running.

Regards,

Cracking idea, will try that when I'm next out, we also had some good evenings in camposol, my 2 boys enjoyed it, playing pool ,etc, hearda rumour that the owner of the irish bar is thinking about setting up a minibus service from condado, which again would be a great idea.

Hi

We used guy called Martin and he was excellent - picked us up at the bar and always turned up on time for the return journey - in fact we didnt pay until the return trip.  His number is 0034648044045, he lives on Camposol.

25 euros return to Camposol, 40 euros return to P de Mazarron
