Hi
I have just booked though DoYouSpain and ended up with Gold CAr. We had Auriga last time who were very good and the only extras were the 3euros per day insurance. Has anyone experience of Gold Car and were there any nasty shocks like hidden additional charges?
Thanks
Phil

Hi
We have used Doyouspain several times from Murcia Airport - Sol Mar and Gold Car and have never been asked to pay any extra - they have tried to sell us extra for tyres and windscreens - I thought with Doyouspain that you had fully comprehensive insurance, no excess (except MPV's, Automatics and Cabriolets)!

All the car hire companies are similar in that their policies and insurances are pretty much the same.
The insurance offered for tyres and glass is because this is not covered in the normal insurance policy, also the whole underneath of the cars are not covered neither is breakages for theft if you leave anything on display. Comprehensive cover is not as comprehensive as you may think.
I've used 'Goldcar' and found them no different to any others.

There is a sign at the car hire desk saying that they insurance is only covered if you take out their policy, annual insurance policies elsewhere not accepted. We were thinking of taking out an annual policy before we saw that. They have it all covered!

Last time we were over we hired car through doyouspain, got car from Solmar. I didnt pay any more for insurance - only paid the extra for the fuel. we had a bit of an accident (beware the exit from car park at Murcia airport!)
Reported accident when we took car back and was told "no problem" as no one else was involved and it was my fault - and as we had fullly comp insurance with no excess with doyouspain, thought we were sorted.
Got back home and month later found out that Sol Mar had taken 500.00 euros out of our credit card - was not impressed (neither was hubby who never has accidents - not!). Anyway, got onto doyouspain who after several emails and calls were most helpful (Spanish lady called Nika - a gem), and they have told us that solmar have reimbursed us the money taken as doyouspain are liable through their insurance - so unless you are going off road, or want windscreen and tyre cover doyouspain insurance fine - the no excess does not cover automatics, people carriers or cabriolets though.

The annual policies are designed to cover any excess or non standard items.
Your contract in these cases is with the insurance provider so any damage, such as a puncture repair, would need to be paid for and claimed from your policy. If you take the car rental excess policy you would need to deal with them, which may still require you to initially pay for the repair. So in principal they're the same although at different cost.

The extra annual insurance is not accepted by the hire companies. That is true. You must pay them.
You just claim what you pay the hire company back from the insurance company. Might take some time but you are covered.
Like any hire company in the world they try it on doesn't matter whether you are in UK, Germany, USA or Spain. Once they decide to take money from your crdit card you have a hell of a fight to get your money back.
In Spain, minor damage is no problem unless you hire from Europcar, Herz and Sixt. In UK even a minor scratch is charged. Till now you don't need to take the extra insurance heavily pushed by the hire comps. Only in case of significant damage it will get tricky and you might end up paying the excess. Read the small print to see how much that is.
I would still recommend the annual insurange for about £50. a cheap piece of mind for the frequent traveller. Any also in case you might need to rent a car elsewhere.

Murcia San Javier Airport , 17 miles south of murcia, an army and the civilian airport is such a beautiful airport, you can find 4-5 agencies out of the airport who provide the car rent service...!!1
