Hi All
Can someone put some "easy to read " instructions on how to get to the nearest hospitals, with landmarks included, and are they public hospitals are private, and do they accept the EHIC card ( old E111) or holidaymakers travel insurance. Also hospitals for Spanish residents who may be holidaying at Don Juan. Finally, have any of you had any experiences with these hospitals, good or bad. I am sure this information would be helpful to most of us in an emergency, so worth printing off and leaving at your apartment.
Any help would be great.

The EHIC card will get you treated or admitted to NHS hospitals through their accident and emergency services. There is 1 in Fuengirola but, while I could find it myself (go off the N-340 at Hipercor head towards the town and there is a sign) I would not want someone unfamiliar with the area relying on my directions! Can anyone be more precise?
The EHIC Card does not get you access to GP services. For simple things just buy medicine at the Pharmacy. If you need a doctor call the emergency number on your travel insurance policy. In my 1 experience of doing this we were given the number of a doctor who came to us. If you don’t have Insurance you can go to one of the private health clinics. 1 that has been recommended to me where English is spoken is Angels of the Night a 24 hour clinic. Drive along the Paseo to The London Pub, turn right, then right again at the lights. The clinic is a few hundred yards along on the right. If the condition is serious they will arrange hospital admission.

Short update on hospitals in Spain.
Unfortunately I have been in and out of hospital for four months now and am extremely pleased with Santa Helena in Torremolinos. Excellent hospital, high tech diagnostic devices like open MRI scanners (still rare), fast CAT scanners etc. Unfortunately I had to use all their stuff so I have first hand experience.
The best thing is the enormous attention of the medical staff. Daily visits by two different specialists (not the regular department physicians) were normal and all tests were done very fast and efficient.
It´s a private hospital so check your insurance if they allow it.
