Having been trying since January for Installation of WIFI Hot Spot at Don Juan, after some perserverance connection was done on Friday 14th November, tried out signal for Internet (read e-mails and uploaded Web Pages) also Telephone (uk, Italy, Spain) found no problems, as mine was a cable connection I contacted the company reference wireless connection and received the following reply.
Thank you for your e-mail. As you know you had a temporary hotspot installation last Friday, and we are pleased to inform you that your neighbours can also connect wirelessly
as of now. Should they have any problems, or be receiving a weak signal please ask them to contact the office directly and we can advise them from there.
Please drop me a line at ken@carvajal-spain.com and if on site can show you it in operation before committing yourself.

Hi Ken,
Is it a pay as you go system you have or a monthly subscription and what is the approx. cost for initial connection and then ongoing? Is the signal quality proving to be satisfactory?

Hi Gericom,
The signal strength was very good, flying out next week to fully evaluate the system as I only was able to try it out for about a couple of hours before returning to the UK.
There is no initial connection fee payment, access costs are for fixed periods , I have registered for an Annual Fee as I am in Spain quite often or friends are.
1 Hour 1 Euro
1 Day 5 Euro
7 Days 10.00 Euros
30 Days 20.00 Euros
90 Days 54 .00 Euros
180 Days 102.00 Euros
365 Days 192.00 Euros
Like some phone cards the days are consecutive, if you buy 30 Days the time starts from when registered,
So when purchasing time you will have to look at which is the most cost effective.
With telephone calls, if you had a fixed line (Telefonica) you are looking at an installation cost of 150€ or non-residents 250€, cost of calls 12€ connection plus 12€ per minute to UK.
Using Skype via WIFI cost of calls to land line nil. If you register a Skype number in a country (UK) this number can be rang at local rates and diverted to your telephone in Spain.

Are you able to publicise the name of the company which you used for your WIFI internet? With the same company, we will at least know that we will get the service ratherr than some other unknown entity.

I have been testing the WIFI connection in bloque one segunda C
On the balcony the connection works fine
Inside only when the sky is clear and not optimal
While on ground floor at Pepe's house the connection was splendid
The antenna seems to be placed too low for a good signal at all times.
Ken could it be possible to get a better signal for us?
What do you recommend?
Best regards,
René

I don't have wi-fi (I just use a "dongle" with a pay as you go Spanish SIM card) but the situation as I understand it is:
To connect to any "hotspot" you need a wireless card attached to your PC - and yes you go to the vip hotspot website and you can buy a day, a week a month or a year. My only concern is that the receiver is on block 10 and the signal strength has been reported as poor if you are not in block 10 or very close to it.

Hi SRS,
A little update on your question: As Davis wrote, you need to have WiFi access from your computer, however some computers has this installed as a standard solution, and some don't, so it's up to the owner of the specific computer to find out.
If the computer is WiFi "ready", then you search for WiFi conections, and you will find the Hot Spot network, and when you connect to that, you will then go to thier website and pay for "what ever amount of time" you need.
At least this is how I read from the instructions I got from the supplier, unfortunately we did not bring the computer with WiFi installation, so we used a 3G Vodafone connection, which costs a lot more to use (next time we will bring the other computer ).
I hope this makes sence, otherwise you need to let the user go to the supplier web site to have a look.

I am in block 8. Last summer (2008) we paid about £20 for 30 days and only one person can log on with a single account. Reception was acceptable although 'no signal' was quite common too.
