Am I missing a point here? What is the purpose of having an elected committee if they are not free to act behalf of the community; where is the need for every decision to be put before the community?
I think it is fair to conclude that the people on the committee have been elected because the owners/voters have the trust and the confidence in them to act on their behalf and in their best interests. Provided that the committee has acted in a responsible manner, then their decisions would be binding on the whole community.

The law says otherwise, but that´s an off-topic discussion. Ask again in community matters if you wish to know how it works. This was about Wifi and personal choices and preferences.

Max, you started it by questioning the probity of the committee's action first on this thread..
Still, I won't waste my time in engaging with you over your dogmatic views.

Dear all,
First of all I regret the fact that the community board is used for commercial intentions by a Supplier.
Second of all the statement of WIFICONNECT is not completely true and in my personal opinion misleading and therefore I will make this comment
To my understanding of the contract there will not be placed more antennas on the roofs where WIFICONNECT has placed an antenna (3 roofs)
All antennas that were before Wifi Connect there will stay.
Even it is possible to invite other suppliers on other roofs where WIFI connect has no antenna ( this was communicated verbally at the time but has to be checked in the contract and I will report later).
I hope the case is clarified now
Best regards,
René

I don’t normally comment on community matters on this forum but there are now several misleading posts on this thread so I thought I should clarify the position before someone erects an antenna and is then told to take it down.
The reason for having a community wifi hotspot is that the provider is obliged to provide cover for all apartments – not just the ones that are within range of a centrally positioned antenna. This obligates the provider to invest in sufficient infrastructure to provide comprehensive coverage. In return for providing a community wide service all wifi providers I spoke to required that all competitor’s antennae be removed. Although there was a high level of dissatisfaction with existing providers including VIP Hotspot we were unwilling to compel existing subscribers to switch to the community system even though WiFiConnect offered to reconfigure the equipment free of charge. After negotiation WifiConnect agreed to allow existing antennae to remain and were confident that they would persuade competitor’s subscribers to switch because of the service and competitive packages they offered.
By appointing WiFiConnect as a community provider we have providing an additional benefit for neighbours at no cost to the community.
Neighbours are allowed to modify their own apartments but the Horizontal Property Law states: Unit owners shall not make any alteration whatsoever in the rest of the building. This means that even if we did not have a community wifi agreement it would be unlawful for any neighbour to install an antenna on an external wall or the roof. The committee have no plans to compel neighbours to remove existing antennae even though most of them were erected illegally. However we are obliged to act if any new unauthorised antennae are erected.
One final point. This is an open web forum. Anyone can join and contribute. I made Barry aware when the 1st misleading info about his company was posted and he has simply acted to defend his name.

My renter (in block 5) is having difficulty in getting internet access on his laptop
What is the best way for him to get it and does he have to have any equipment installed please?
Also, all of a sudden, after a year and a half his freeview has disappeared and he cannot get a signal.
Has anyone else had problems?
Thanks
SRS

Hi SRS,
Wifi in DJ is only available by subscription - some people think we have a free hot spot which we don't. The Community supplier is Wifi Connect. Barry will visit your renter by apointment, check the signal and explain the options. In block 5, being at the bottom of the site, a booster aerial may be required. His number is a few posts down on this thread.
There are other suppliers operating in DJ but they don't have an agreement with the community.
With regard to your satelite signal I am assuming you are connected to the community dish. If that is the case ring or e-mail Gemsat who will attend promptly and if the problem is with the dish or your connection to it fix it without charge. If however the problem is with your (or your renters') equipment they will charge a call out fee.
I hope this helps.

Janice,
The community power was off yesterday in block 8 where wifi connect's main instalation is but it was fixed around 6.00PM last night. Other users are connected OK so I think you'll find it is working again

Hi, and sorry to intrude on a private forum.
My name is Adrian Atkins, and i operate a competing wifi network called 'VX'.
Outages due to mains power failures can be prevented using battery backup systems which allow for up to 4 days supply in the event of a power failure (which used to be so common here in Spain).
I should be meeting Laurence at Y-Internet in the next few weeks, after which an affordable design should be available to both Y and WiFi Connect to help prevent this type of outage.

Hello all,
Sorry to go over old ground but there may have been developments since I last asked about this.
My renter (in block 5) is having difficulty in getting internet access on his laptop with his dongle.
He has been told that he may need a "booster" and that there is someone in an apartment below with one.
His questions are:
1) Where can he get one?
2) Can apartments or the block share a booster?
3) What are the costs?
4) Is there an alternative solution?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Davimunster kindly mentioned Barry at WIFI connect, do we still use them and does anyone have his email address?
Thanks
SRS

Hi SRS,
Using a dongle which connects to the internet via a mobile phone network depends on the mobile phone signal. We used Vodaphone and the signal inside our apartment at the bottom of block 6 was not good. If he wants to continue with his current setup it may be possible for your renter to get a better signal using a SIM card from another mobile network. A USB booster antenae will not make any difference if he is using a dongle.
WIFI is a different system which you have to subscribe to to use. Most users in Don Juan pick up the signal using the built in antenae in their laptops. Some are even able to watch TV via the internet using this system. The signal strength is weakest in blocks 5 & 6 but can be boosted using a booster aerial which plugs into a USB port in the computer. As it only boosts the signal to the computer it is connected to it can't really be shared. Barry from WIFI connect sells boosters - I looked for them in the shops but didn't find any. His e-mail address is info@wificonnect-spain.com

I lived in Bloque 9 at the top and have just moved to Bloque 6 at the bottom of the complex and can thoroughly recommend WiFi Connect for both signal and service.
Barry has always been upfront about charges, service and connection and tells it as it is. He also helped me out with an issue with my computer when i rung him assuming the internet had gone off (which it hadn't, my PC was knackered till he took it apart and fixed the issue).
I can also add that the signal strength and sppen never dips even in the worst weather, unlike sky TV which is unavoidable, and that when I told him I was moving he reconnected us within a day.
I haven't used the other providers as I was recommended by Ray to use WiFi Connect, and as such can't comment on them

"Y-Internet.com Renewal Reminder for your Yearly 30 Giga Byte Total Usage Account
Firstly thank you for choosing Y-Internet.com as your service provider."
I have been dealing with Barry of WiFi Connect for my WiFi Internet service which falls due for renewal shortly but I have just received an email as quoted above from Y-Internet.com regarding the renewal.
Has Y-Internet taken over from WiFi Connect for service in Don Juan or are they working together now ?

Hi Gay
You should not have received that renewal notice from Y-internet. It was sent by mistake.
The community wide wifi infrastructure is owned by Y-internet. Wifi Connect services are carried over Y-Internet's infrastructure. The advantage of using Wifi Connect is that he provides a local service. You can continue to use Wifi Connect or switch to Y-Internet, as some neighbours have, if you prefer.
Sorry if that sounds confusing!

Hi neighbours,
We also want internet at Don Juan, still going to the boulevard for using internet. Not a big problem, but it would be easier..
We saw Y internet was 39 euros a month, I think that's very expensive?? (Holland is much cheaper)
We're about 18 weeks in Spain, so in that case 468 euros for that time....
For us it's just for answering our emails.
Does anybody have an alternative for us? Maybe wifi is cheaper?
Kind regards,
Corrie
