Having visite a couple of websites and had relatively lengthy conversations with UK based Air con suppliers I have been informed pre-gased units are almost as easy as hanging a picture on the wall.
Being a 'cosmetic' DIYer and happy to 'have a go' at most simple DIY tasks its worth consideration.
Has any other fellow CdA'ers fitted their own units? How simple was it and is the preinstal pipework all in place?
If so, is this something that is better left to the likes of Gary at Polarair et all.

I had my Air Con fitted by Polar Air and watched as the work was done. Several problems were encountered by Gary who said they were problems he had come across on many occasions at CDA that were due to Polaris using several Sub Contractors to pre install pipework. The main problems being, Kinked Pipes, Short Pipes, Drainage pipes being blocked, upstairs and downstairs pipework being transposed etc etc. For the difference in price I would not entertain doing this work myself which would also mean no guarantees. I have removed Bidet, fitted own Lights, Built BBQ etc but would not go anywhere near Air Con no matter how simple it SEEMS to look.

Hi
We would agree with davell!
My hubbie did everything except install the aircon and Gary at Polarair encountered several probs with the pre installation (one of which were there was no drainage pipe at all) so this was sorted out by Gary liasing with Polaris! Apparently Polaris had to knock some holes in our walls so thank goodness we were'nt there to watch it!!!
Good luck whatever you decide!

Brett I agree with all others, the price of installation of the units is so little compaired to the cost of units it's defo worth getting the pro's in to do it, you are just going to have to take the old clamp off the wallet mate lol

Hi Brett,
Have to agree with everyone else.
I have installed my own pre-gassed aircon in the UK and the hardest thing about it is drilling the hole through the wall for the pipework.
However there are so many problems you can come across at CDA with the pre-installed pipework it really isn't worth it.

We know of at least 20 people that are having to have their air contractor come back for problems with the pre install, I would definately get a professional, also ask your contractor if they are charging for Pre Install.... MOST ARE! if they are, shouldn't they check the system thoughly before leaving.
All the contractors are aware of the problems on Condado, I just feel if they are charging for the FULL install they also, could do better.
