vat on goods bought in uk

Can the vat on goods bought in UK be claimed back if shipped to Murcia? We want to take advantage of some good prices in Uk but have been told both yes and no on claiming vat back.  Also is there an import duty in to Spain?

Hi there

You cannot reclaim VAT for goods sent to Murcia unless you are shipping to a VAT registered business in Spain. The Spanish business would then have to charge IVA (Spanish VAT) when they resell the goods. 

As a private person you cannot reclaim VAT for goods travelling to another EC country. There is no import duty between member states.

That is said to be matriculation tax i understand but never transferred a car so cannot really comment.

Enjoy your shopping. I still have fond memories of buying all our stuff when we first bought in Spain. We shipped most of our stuff but still spent years picking up bits and pieces afterwards and then panicking in case (sorry for the pun) we were overweight at the airport..
