La Serena is the Hotel on Serena Golf course, just past Los Alcazares on the motorway, that openned and was then closed down due to lack of business
It recently re-openned and the pools and spa still need work but it is a good sign that the hotel is open again and i have noticed an increase in golf players around over the last month

The European PGA Club Professionals championship, which is being held in Roda in the coming week, is being held there for the third year in a row. It is a brilliant week of golf and great "craic" in the Clubhouse as well. I can highly recommend it and Scotland won the year before last with the Irish coming first last year. I am up for a Scottish return to form this year and will be there to cheer them on!
For the information of the last few posters, all of the club pros ie approximately 90 or so are staying in Roda in Roda rental properties (as they did last year) so good news for all of the development ie the shop, the pro's shop, the clubhouse, the local taxis, the owners in the rental programme and probably Campbell's Irish bar etc etc. Surely the fact that journalists are staying at La Serena but the tournament is being held on the better course ie Roda, speaks volumes about Roda and when they are sitting there in the middle of nowhere for a few nights guess where most of them would prefer to be?
As regards the hotel at La Serena, which was indeed closed until the beginning of this month from before Easter, the press conference for the visiting journalists is being held there and some of the journalists are staying there. My information is that there are only about 25 journalists whereas there are 90+ players and associated people and they are all on Roda. So it seems that Roda are getting a fair crack of the business and whilst it would be nice to have a hotel in Roda would we want one that was closed for the busiest time of the year and just opened for the off season? I think we would be best advised to wait until the markets stabilise.
As a businessman myself, albeit retired, I could not offset the cost of building a five star resort hotel with the promise of one weeks business and possibly a lot of that cost would be freebies to the visiting press so JORED and ace wake up and smell the coffee this is not viable in the immediate future and just be glad that the place will be busy in one of the quietest times of the year anywhere else.

Thanks for the update,I think you have taken me up wrong. The event has been on the Roda website for the past few months. The date for it was the last week in Oct. When down there that week I didn't see a lot happening and then I found the club murcia link and published it. IT's great for Roda to be involved in the event even though they dont have the hotel to put the reporters in. It does not make sence to build a hotel in the current climate (I agree) as the Serena Hotel was built and shut again. Its fantastic news to see it opened up again. This is all possitive.
Come on "Fair Dues" edit your post about me waking up an smelling the coffee. After all I did start this link.
Heres another good link

Hi Don ( fair dues )
I think you do need to edit for ace that comment , but for me it dont really matter
I agree with you its fantastic event and can do nothing but good for Roda the advertising etc.
Don you say you are a retired business man,
I take it when you bought on Roda you were shown all the Facilitys that entailed and you then choose your particular Apartment or Villa , You at the time were happy to pay a premium for all the Resort at Roda would bring , Correct ?
At the time of your purchase ( best guessamate) Land on Roda was Euro 3.500.00 metre a massive premium to the surrounding Land that was priced at Euro 2.000.00 metre, But heh you bought into Calidono"s vision, honesty , promotion , after all they must be Ok because DE-VERE and the PGA both World wide Famous brands are in bed with them what could go wrong !!
Back in 2006 before any "Crisis" Roda had a Line of Credit from Bco Santander for Euro 30mio to build the Hotel and Spa , Commercial Centre
Don I dont no what Home you have on Roda so lets say , you have a 2 bed Penthouse of 75 metre priced at Euro 260k approx ( sorry to the guys that own penthouse if i got it wrong just approx )
NO FACILITYS AS PROMISED AND AS SHOWN IN THE BROCHURES
2 bed Penthouse at Euro 2.000.00 metre on your 75metre plot is Euro 150k
A massive saving of EURO 110.000.00
Just think Don , you could have with the extra money bought a Coffee Shop , You are so correct I would have woke up and took a
stroll and " Smelt the Coffee "
Sorry Don with respect , Its people like you that make Calidona"s non complinance of the deal struck so easy for them , this should never happen we need to have what we were sold now not in 10 years from now
Would you settle for a Ford Anglia when you paid for a baby Bently. no of course not

morning all,
I have to agree with fair dues, all the bleating and moaning about not having a hotel is not going to make Calidona change their minds.
Whilst i fully agree it is wrong that there isn't a hotel as fair dues says it is not viable to build a hotel at the moment.
You can quote all the figures about our paper losses and slag off Calidona some more, to be honest they're hardly going to be concerned what we all think about not having a hotel.
As someone else said a while back, these are the risks you take buying off plan. Not right but a fact i'm afraid.

is there really a need to attack other members of the forum for expressing there opinions ?
perhaps its time you woke up and smelt the coffee , all these people are asking for is what they were sold is that so wrong ?
the people i spoke to over the summer who were on the calidona rental programme were discusted with the amount of bookings they were recieving in one case 3 days in a year !! in another 1 week in a year !! roda may be busy with the competition but as they say one "swallow doesent make a summer " it is not an easy place to rent (for the owners) the units are over priced and there is a lack of facalaties and to try and defend the situation is illogical , the fact that it may not be as "bad as some " doesent make it right .
fairdues , may i ask if in your business career prior to retirement .. "were you by any chance an estate agent "?

Hi Stuart ,
I agree with debbie k ,,, so there we have 1-1
Stuart go back and read your post you agree and dis agree so many times with yourself you have gone round in circles
Its also FACTS that Calidona have not delivered on Roda, not slagging them off , just trying to relay what we actually have and what was actually sold to us at point of purchase,
Sure Off Plan is risky , but like you with the World class names associated with the Resort they should have been restricked to small snagging problems , maybe a 6 month delay one of the shops opening in the Commercial Centre not the massive ones we all encounter today and possibly many Years
We are all different , we can all argue, debate the right and wrongs of the Hotel etc the FACTS are there for all to see, we have probally the best un-finished Resort in Murcia--- Period

Jored,
you say we can argue all we want, i'm not arguing, as i'm not the one losing sleep over the lack of a hotel.
Sure, i don't like not having a hotel or shops but i'm justt getting on with it and enjoying my palce and the golf course at RODA.
Perhaps we can start a new thread and Calidona might take some notice of that one and just knock up a hotel in the middle of the biggest global downturn in living memory.

Hi shagan ,
You are pullling my leg right ?
You are going around in circles again contradicting yourself ?
" I am not losing any sleep over the lack of a Hotel " FOLLOWED BY " Sure , I dont like not having a Hotel "
Please read my post to Fair dues and you will see where I am coming from.
I too like the Golf , fantastic , I too like my Apartment , BUT THEN WHAT ?
My Family and Friends visit ,they like it very much, but everyone, man woman and child say " It will be great once its finished "
Why cant we have the things searay posts below ? If we had them then even I would wait a tad for the Hotel
Shall we agree to disagree or this might run on and on ,and I for one will loose the will to live
Good debate
Cheers

Hi
"It'll be great once it's finished." This is what me and my family all say. If De Vere have signed a contract for the hotel - surely it is irrelevant what the Global Economy has affected. It should be built as per contract - just the same as Calidona are forcing people to complete as per their contract. De Vere and Calidona are not the only ones affected by the Global Economy. We all have been! The least Calidona can do is to let purchasers walk away without pursuing them for completion monies. The next thing is to compensate purchasers who have completed in some way with profits already made. Will that ever happen? I'm a glass half full! (and naive!!)
We know that Calidona are in this purely for profit and that they apparrantly make good profit. I know that it will never happen but wouldn't it be nice if they evidenced some compassion for what THEY have caused to others by misrepresentation of time scales and facilities.
Supporters of 'be grateful for what you get' instead of what was agreed and paid for are sadly even more naive than me.
'Contracts are contracts' - SO SAY CALIDONA - Yes they are but that works both ways!

I have tried to stay out of this debate, but have to say - good post Jeanbertha, you've prompted me to chip in.
I can understand why both parties - Calidona and DeVere might not want to build a hotel in the current climate (hence why I have stayed out of this debate up to now), but Calidona should at least deliver the basic infrastructure they promised.
Hotel and Commercial Centre aside for a moment, we all paid a premium to be a five star resort, but as a purchaser on phase one, it is clear that Calidona have not even delivered against their contract in respect of the apartments and grounds; as Searay points out, there are damp and flooding basements, cracking of walls on roof terraces but there are also many penthouse roofs that leak, as well as disgusting, badly designed water features, badly planned and stocked gardens with inadequate irrigation. I understand other phases also have problems and collectively we don't even have the security that we bought into.
Roda might be better than most, but it is not five star and not what we paid a premium for.
It is now falling to the individual communities to put right what Calidona should have got right in the first place. It is a slow and costly process which may well involve litigation and and it is the communities that suffer in the meantime.
It is unacceptable that we don't have a hotel and commercial centre when we were sold it at the outset, but Calidona won't even deliver on what they were contracted to deliver, never mind what was in the brochure.
I don't think Calidona are interested in anything but their profit and so when the economic situation improves we will no doubt get our hotel and commercial centre because they will be able to make money out of them.
In the meantime, I can only hope that our community are successful in getting them to put right the numerous problems with the current infrastructure.
