Work apparently begins tomorrow on the strip outside the bars. We're reliably informed however, that it is going to take 6 months. I don't know whether this means it will be extraordinarily elaborate or one man and his dog is doing the work. Time will tell, but I think it will make a huge difference and am really looking forward to seeing it evolve. I'll post pictures as and when there's anything to show.
Regards

Hi again
well, work didn't begin (surprise, surprise!) as I was told. However, I have seen the plans - the nice man in Soltura has them although he's not sure that he actually should have them, so I don't know how he got hold of them.
Outside Soltura and I think, overlapping the front of Mano's, there will be an oval paved and seating area with a few plants around the edge. There will be a road in a horseshoe shape - coming in and out on the side road. There will be car parking in the middle of the horseshoe with what looks like low-level planting dotted around. The area to the side of Supervalue will get a similar treatment.
I'll let you know when it starts
I'm also told that it's unlikely that any work will start on the ground between the bungalows and the cemetary in the very near future, although they have planted some very large trees (a bit like the doughnut shaped ones in the square) and have dug quite a few holes. Again, I'll keep you posted.
Alan has been running a quiz in Manos each week which is proving popular, so next time you're over, come and give it a try. It's free!!!

Well, work has finally started... the workmen came along and put a mesh fence in the gutter outside the estate agens and Manos. Then they sat down and that's it so far.

They've broken up all the concrete - including the aprons to the bars so no sitting outside in the sun, when we see the sun that is.
As I said, they put up a fence around the site, including the pavement. Now it seems they are moving it so that we can use the pavement - probably another half a day wasted.
There's an almighty mess in the roads caused by the comings and goings from the site and also by lorries coming around to the ground at the side of the cemetary which they seem to be filling with all sorts of stuff then levelling it off, so they might even me thinking about starting on that as well. They've been depositing lorry loads of soil, rubble etc.
When the sun shines I'll take some photos ... possibly tomorrow, who knows

Just a quick update.
All the excess soil and rubble has been removed and dumped in the ground next to the cemetary - looks like a lot of giant moles have arrived.
The pipes have been laid and grey stones put on top of the flattened area.
They marked out a huge oval which stretches from the estate agents to Timanfaya - I think this will be car-free with planting and seating.
Next they put curb stones all the way along from the side road parallel with the main road and they curve like a giant horseshoe back out on to the side road - I'm told that this will be the road in and out.
On the plans the area to the side of Supervalu looks like a car park as well.
Interestingly, there's a roundabout on the plan just up the road from this work where the derelict hanger-like constructon is (on the left) and it looks as if the road will link up with the road behind Manos bar which links to our road (Avenida Comunidad Valenciana).
Adios

I do intend to take photos, but at the moment there's really not much to see except an expanse of grey with a few kerb stones.
Hopefully in a week or so there'll be something worth photographing.

Not a chance that it will be finished by May I'm afraid, but it is taking shape. I intend to take photos tomorrow and will post them. They appeared to have been shipping in paving today.

Hi
As far as I know its the council are footing the bill. I believe they see it as a way of keeping their workers working rather than pay them dole money, little as it is in Spain.

Hi,
I don't suppose there's anychance of you posing as works foreman,
and leading them down Ave.Comunidad Valenciana to a little spot
opposite the bungalows ? ;-)

Patience! Our turn will come. They will, eventually, get around to doing the work opposite you.
By the way, we now have speed humps - two in fact: one outside block 1 and another outside block 5.
