This might amuse you but.....
Does anyone know how to fish? I've been golfing all my life but when I go to San JUan I would like to be able to go fishing from "the rock".
Can anyone advise what sort of rod to buy, the type of fish out there, the bait etc etc. I promise you a pint in Pepas after I catch my first one

bought a fishing rod last summer for my young lad up at the super market , ask them they sorted out the bait ( wierd worms) and and made up a couple lines with hooks and wieghts and we duely went down to the rocks were some young boys laughing at our efforts showed us how to attach the bait to a long needle type hook by threading the worm up through the centre and along the length of its body we were all set and cast away for the evening catching nothing but i took some pictures of the fish the the other kids had caught and pretended to mummy that we had a fruitfull fishing trip ,she still thinks we are expert fisher men . going out on the 22nd of april for a couple of days to have another go. read a post on eye on spain that there was a road bowls club somewhere maybe we could have the annual cork v armagh in calas del pinar ( never played but have had a few near misses with the car if that sounds familar)

We bought our fishing rods from Decathlon the big sports outlet near eroski in Aguilas. Last time we were out we ended up having a competition with all the brits off CDP there was about 14 of us & i dont think one of us had a clue, we got our bait from the local supermarket along with the Cervsa & wine ( kept it cool in the water) We actually caught 2 fish but did not win the comp as we all got quite merry and forgot about the outcome. We met in Pepes the next day and someone said they caught 6 fish (there nose was about 6ft long). But yes fishing is more relaxing & sociable than golf (cheaper as well). I still can not get the hang of casting out but I am sure I will. By the way we also went off the rock between the 2 beaches. Good luck Sean & dont take it to serious please, dont forget to get a rod for Margot (not sure wether she will handle the worms though, Pam would'nt Ha !!)

Hi
Make sure you get a sea fishing liscence,as now and again you wll be asked to produce it by the police,i believe that there is an on the spot fixed fine.A seperate lisence is needed for river and lake fishing.

Hi Sean & Margot,
I fancied this too, I used to fish when I was a lad and it`s a great way to keep me out of the pub...
The larger supermarket has some good gear but I suspect you would get it cheaper in Aguilas, there is a tackle shop on the front if you walk past the train away from the main town.
Good luck and don`t forget our invite to the barby if you ever catch anything....
Cheers,
Roger & Stella

Hi
No joke and could be wrong but i think that you get the pemit / liscense from Almeria.Easier to get a lot done in one go,rather than a lot of seperate journeys.I know John the owner of the Beachcomber bar in Mojacor has something to do with a fishing club and deals with things for you.

Looks like a visit to the Beachcomber BAr might be a good idea guys. One nominated driver, three beer drinkers and a bar owner who can tell us what we need to know. Now thats a day out!
Roger let me know who wants to play golf in April. Im going to book for Friday the 16th and one other day.
