as far as I know the boxes from the uk do not work, we have the polaris box and as a one of payment we think it is good value, lots of others have gone for the polaris box.

We bought a digital tv in an electrical shop near ikea and it gets all the english digital channels without having to have a box fitted. We even tried it at our next door neighbours and it still worked there. I was surprised and quite cross that we had spent so much on a polaris box.

Hi All,
Can we have some clarity on this. I too am about to buy a digibox and dont want to waste the money.
I presume the TV must have a freeview box fitted?
Terry.

I have a digi tv purchased in Spain, I have tried to get the english/polaris Tv channels with no success.
Can you post a step by step guide IE. tuning instructions as to how you managed, and the chanells you are able to receive.
Thanks

To get the UK channels without a box you will need to buy a TV with a built-in DVB-C (cable ) receiver, most new tele's only have DVB-T i.e terestrial digital such as Freeview in the UK or TDT in Spain
There are not many TVs that have this and these have only started to be introduced recently. Initially only Sony made them and they were very expensive, but recently Samsung, Philips and a few other have started to introduce it as well. So if you already have a tele, the chances are you will need a box ( check the manual ). If you haven't got a TV yet, look for "DVB-C" in the spec, if it's a international brand that is sold in Germany then it will probably pick up the channels. But they do tend to be on the more expensive models so it may be cheaper to get a cheaper TV and a box, unless you can find a bargin.
