I'm over for two weeks shortly and was wondering if it is worth a day out?

Hi bfr,

Dont know if its worth a day out but certainly worth a visit and if you do go take your swimming gear as you can use the pools, there are also a couple of little shops and coffee shops to eat in, which were really nice. I was more interested in the houses that were being built on the side of the hill which even before being finished had huge cracks in their structure.  We only viewed the right hand side of the complex so probably missed a lot.

Hi BFR

Do you mean the La Manga Club or the the actual La Manga strip?

We think both are well worth a visit. The club has loads of facillities including pools crazy golf (mega expensive) and restaurants/bars which are well woth seeing and good value. We usually go over late afternoon have a wander round maybe a game of crazy golf and then eat in the Si restaurant/bar. It's brilliant for families or couples with a good choice of food and every kind of sport on about 8 wide screen plasma's. There's also a kids play room with arcades air hockey and pool etc. They often have entertainment in the large garden for kids so you can relax while they make friends and play. It's very good if that's what you like.

We went to La Manga Strip 3 years ago and that too was well worth a visit. It's  really different to any other place we'd been  and you have to be on it to appreciate quite how a narow a land mass it is. There are bars resataurants and clubs all the way along it and it seems to go on forever. I think we made it to about two thirds along and we found a restaurant that was in the shape of a big ship. It overlooked the mar menor and the food was good and and reasonably priced. One thing that struck us was the design of the tower blocks. I believe they are the work of famous spanish design guru and they all look like castles with turrets etc. We thought they were a little odd!!!

Jill and Terry have got a video on La Manga strip on there site which they showed last week.

Went last year to both the strip and the club. Personally i thought the strip was a real dump and vastly over stated as a good place to take a holiday. The club looks as though in its day was a good resort but since then I understand has been through financial difficulties and was looking a bit tired in places.

It´s an hours drive and if you want good beaches and activties there are better places to visit. Went to Playa Flamenca the other day which is no where near as big as the strip but in a much better state and had some pleasant restaurants and shops. You might be better off there - very much like I Drive in Orlando if you like that kind of thing.

We always go over to La Manga (both the strip and the club) a couple of times for a meal and evening out.  Many people seem to think that the strip consists purely of the glitzy commercial area that you first run through and has all the usual souvenir shops etc..  However, if you keep going well past that and through the quieter residential areas to an area called El Oasis, turn left at the roundabout and that leads you to a lovely Marina with a couple of nice restaurants & bars overlooking it.

I agree with Faulky.  The strip is a dump.  I have been there several times and it never seems to get any better.  Cabo de Palos, just beside the strip is nice enough though as is La Manga Club.  It's still pretty pukka.

Yes bfr,

A very mixed bag but it is one of these things you'll have to go and judge for yourself,  I to also think the strip is a dump.  70's  highrise hotels that could do with a facelift, waste ground with rubbish dumped on it and surround by graffiti, burger bars and ice cream parlours. Blackpool on a bad day. I certainly wont be going back(to the strip)
