Hi all,
Just had this reply from Laura at SJ. I asked about preinstallation for pipes for radiators. This is the reply i got.
Regarding radiators, I will have during this week, new prices for natural gas radiators. This means that all the properties in Jumilla, will have town natural gas installed and gas boiler with town gas. So, as soon as I have the new prices for a Combi-boiler and gas radiators, I will send you.
Great news as it gets cold on a night here.
Regards Ian

That is good news as it will be far more cost effective to run rather than electric underfloor heating. Providing the installation costs are not our of the question that is. I was not aware that there is Natural Gas in Jumilla but will start fishing.

Hi All
am back on line after problems with broadband just trying to catch up with all the posts. We thought we had settled on a fireplace and air conditioning/heating now I don't know what we'll do. Great site the way everyone shares information we hope to go out to Jumilla at the end of March for a few days so we will need to make up our minds before then. Just to let you know how invaluable this site is to us we E-Mailed our Estate Agent 6 weeks ago and as yet await a reply to the questions we asked!!

Hi all,
I was on site this week and also met with Laura at SJ in Torrevieja. Laura explained that the gas company are to provide natural gas to SADM. Not sure whether it will be a big tank somewhere or whether by pipeline.
I have uploaded a picture of the boiler and radiators.
Remember there is 5% discount for this month only.

All,
Many of you have asked for the schematic and at the same time I've offered some of you (Bob / Mark) our own perspective on this subject, so I thought (if you all don't mind) to share our thoughts regarding Central heating with you all to offer a contrating view. Remeber, this is our perspective and we're not dis-couraging the concept of Central Heating for others.
Going off of Linda & David Needham's valuable experience with living there over a number of years and their knowledge of weather conditions, it appears it only tends to get cold for 4-6wks maximum and even this year has been really mild and the need for heating has been minimal, therefore to have central heating installed is false economy if only used 6 weeks out of 52 (ie 3,500euros for 6weeks use). However, the air con units do blow hot and cold air so have more economical and beneficial utilisation throughout the year, climatising for all seasons, and can be run via solar power which also reduces the running cost as it remains sunny for a large proportion of the year. In addition, if you look at these plans for the Azucena, the only available wall space you have for storage / wall units etc is now taken by a radiator and if you stick a cupboard or settee in front, you lose all the benefits.
We invested a while back in some oil-filled portable radiators for our conservatory which we intend taking over with us, (in fact we'll be buying more in bulk and offering them out for rental during the cold spell) . Again, solar power helps run these units and they are flexible as to where and when you need the heat and if they break, they are so cost effective you just replace them, albeit we've had ours nearly 4 years now and still working fine.
As I say, our own preference but worth some consideration. I feel sorry for those that have ordered underfloor heating which is now being scrapped and CH being put in instead, with the space factor, these people have no option now regarding where the radiators are situated.
Viva the Spanish way of living !!!!!!!!
Regards

Fully concur with your thoughts on gas central heating. When last in Spain we spotted in Carrafor some plug in economical electric radiators that we will be invested in. However we will be investigating the piping of gas to our Marbella as I much prefer to use gas for cooking as its a better controlled heat.
Linda of course has no idea about controllable heat source in cooking, if it doesn't 'ping' it ain't cooked is her idea. think I'min the poo now. Take cover incoming aghhhhhhhhhh.......................

Hi Darren
This year has been the exception and has been very mild. Last year we had the heating on from October through to April as it was very cold throughout that period. Although the sun shines a lot as soon as it goes down it is instantly cold and it can seem like semi desert at times here.. The year before we had the heating on from December through to March and all day for 6 weeks of that time. The first year we were here we could not believe that it was so cold and wet for so long. We arrived on December 16th and it was cold and wet right through until 2 June. Sounds incredible but it was so bad we had to ask Davids Dad, who was coming to stay in May to come out in June as the cold would have killed him. We had friends come and stay that year who lived near Torrevieja but they left after the first night. So it varies considerably from year to year. We are very high above sea level here around 550 metres. I agree the portable gas heaters are cheap to run, cheap to buy and very convenient for moving around we have them in our house at the moment and they are very effective. a gas bottle will cost 12 Euros. If kept on day and night will last 4/5 days. I have a 5 ring gas hob and the gas bottle lasts about 5 months. Our biggest issue with these was that if we did not run them all night, getting out of bed in the morning was like turning the clock back 50 years before the days of central heating in houses in the UK.

Darren,
with regards to your last post :
"I feel sorry for those that have ordered underfloor heating which is now being scrapped and CH being put in instead, with the space factor, these people have no option now regarding where the radiators are situated."
I am a bit confused! Have I missed something? Is underfloor heating now not an option and if not where did you get this info from? We are out in Spain next week and had intended paying our deposit for our chosen extras including underfloor heating! I have also read somewhere that SJ are changing the layout for some electrical sockets in some properties, does anyone have any further info on this as we are also paying for extra sockets that may or may not now be needed! My head is beginning to hurt again!
I think I'll buy a tent instead.
p.s Darren could you send me a map of the positioning of the radiators please
Thanks
Ian

Ian,
I had taken the context from a previous post which indicated SJG's intentions
" They were told that SJ were scrapping the underfloor heating and only installing Gas central heating for those who required heating. "
The statement has appeared a number of times on this and other forums so there must be some substance behind the decision.
Can you PM me your email address and I'll send over the schematic
Cheers fella
Darren

Yes it is all very confusing indeed.
Whatever you decide to do with regard to heating you will need it if you are going to use your house in the winter months.. The period in which you will need it varies from year to year and It was one of the main reasons I first looked for a forum on the SAdM site and Homer might remember it was my first post on this site. We did not realise when we first bought here that the weather is not the same as on the coast where it is not so important.
We have bought at SAdM for investment and rental and I have bought no other extras only the heating and I wont even be living in it. It was also interesting to note when we bought that SJ did not know that it got so cold here on occasions either.
Electric sockets. Yes they have changed the original spec so you need to check with them what the new plan is.
