Hi all,
I have been attending Condado three to four times a year for almost the past three years. On each and every occasion I have broght my grandson. We visit the pool at least three times per day. On each visit I wear a vest. the reason for this is that I have had extensive surgery to my abdomnal area, which apart from being unsightly is very sensitive to sunlight. Yesterday I along with every resident at the pool was astonished when I was approached ny a security guard and asked to leave the pool as I was wearing a top. I do understand the necessity to have house rules, but I also understand the requirement for simple common sense when applying such rules. I change into my trunks and top just prior to entering the pool, I dont dive in with my working gear on. The sign at the poolside states appropraite swimwear. In this instance I feel it most appropriate that I cover my scar tissue from direct sunlight, it was 34c yesterday. Can one of the presidents clarify the situation hopefully applying the vry rare commodity of common sense. Please excuse spelling error and mistakes, I fotgot my specs.

Hi
We too have experienced problems with different peoples definitions of what various pool rules mean. We were lucky in that our garden president is both resonable and bi lingual!! One of the biggest problems is that not all the security guards can speak english and alot of explainations are lost. With our own particular problem having spoken to our president the previous night and told it was ok security was called by another resident to tell us to remove a baby sun shade from the pool area. We tried to explain that our president said it was ok and repeataly asked where in the rules it stated that we couldn't use it. The security guard just couldn't understand what we were trying to say and therefore seemed to only be listening to the complaining (spanish) resident. Eventually after alot of argueing and bad feeling involving alot of people in our garden the security guard realised that although he had been told that pegs were used to hold down the shade (not allowed) this was not the case ! As I said before luckily our president came along later with the security guard and told the complainant that the sun shade was allowed. Unfortunately this is not the first time that security has been called for very minor problems in our garden by one particular resident and because of the language barrier he tends to just go with what the compaining resident says and this is causing a hugh amount of bad feeling and our poor president must have a pain in his neck having to translate all the time.
Re wearing your top in the pool we were originally told that we couldn't as the detergent used when washing wouldn't be good for the pool. When it was pointed out that our swimming togs were washed in the same way as any tops we might wear it has been allowed in our pool!

Regarding wearing of tops in the swimming pool. When I was over earlier in the summer I managed to burn my back a little so rather than exposing this to the sun I put a t-shirt on s I could swim. This was clean and certainly I had not worn it all day and then jumped in the pool. I also told my 6 year old niece to put a t-shirt on once as she was looking a little red and didn't want her burning but she wanted to play with her friends in the pool. I can't see anything wrong with people wearing clean tops in the pool, but then that is just my opinion.

i would have thought t shirts were no worse in the pool than sun creams and oils of sun worshippers
what about babies are they not to swim in the pool no t shirts on them either
not being funny just need to know.

Thank you all for your response.
The wearing of tops in the pool would be encouraged back home if the temperature topped 20c. Our TV advserts remind us that oils and creams only slow down the dangerous effects of the sun. The advice we get is to be sure and safe, cover up! As stated earlier, light shirts are surely more acceptable than the chemicals in our lotions and potions, not to mention our dead and dying burned skin. It is prudent and safe to cover up in 34c of direct sunshine, particularly for our kids. Hopefully someone in authority will advise the security, who are after all only doing their job, that a bit of common sence should prevail. In these days of over indulgence in Health & Safety our community seems to be heading completely in the other direction. If you require to contact me directly I can be contacted at (expensive&safeswimtops.com).

Hi everyone,
Someone included the comment that "the trouble is that they don't speak English".
May I suggest that perhaps the problem is perhaps the other way around, particularly since we are located in Spain?

Hi Ken
While I do agree to your point that as we are in spain we should be able to speak spanish (which I am learning) I think that it should be recognised that this resort was agressively marketed to other non spanish speaking countries so therefore there should be at least some security personel that can speak english or french (common languages to many countries) to avoid un necessary misunderstandings. It should be pointed out that when buying into the resort we were assured that english speaking staff were part of the package. This does not mean that I think I am absolved from at least attempting to learn the spanish language however I am paying the same fees etc as everyone else and expect to at least be able to have the chance to be able to give my opinion/"side" if there is a problem. As I have said before in our garden we are very lucky to have a bi lingual president but I think that it is unfair that he has to translate for security if a problem arises. The Spanish certainly put the Irish to shame in that many of them have a good comand of english so it shouldn't be very difficult to find suitable personel who also can speak at least basic english or french

Rules are rules, I agree, but this rule does appear a little extreme.
I wish the security guards had been more interested in speaking to the group 0f 6-8 young kids from the Naranjos Jardines who for 5 nights consecutive ran along the corridors screaming at the top of their voices outside peoples apartments at midnight and using the lifts as a toy going up and down repeatadly. NO I'm not a killjoy- I have kids aswell but I have taught my children how to behave and ensure they do, Pity not all parents do the same!!! Whilst talking about rules, since when is it permisable for people to park in the allocated parking spaces in the penthouses which are numbered just to ensure a shaded car park space despite not owning or having paid for that facility-NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I always park in the shade - it's hardly busy when I've been over. I think we had as many as 4 or 5 cars in our Penthouse once. If it was busy of course I wouldn't. Relax, chill your've just been on holiday - who was it hurting.

I am relaxed thanks, my point is that I come back from a day out to find someone in my space which forced me to park in someone elses which led to embarrasment when I was asked to move my car. I had no case to argue. So lets use some common sense in the first instance. I wouldnt park on someones drive in the UK without asking first, so whats the difference.
