I have posted on condadodealhamaservices.com with reference to the restaurant closing and the proposed coffee shop. As I stated on there, I find it intriguing that along with the request for a coffee shop, there is also a request for Golf Club business. They are both in the same location, and what is more intriguing is that the company requesting the licences is: LA TORRE POLARIS HOTEL SL CIF B-73319584 ???
Also on other forums I have seen that La Torre is also suffering close downs, which according to them only leaves them with the Woodhouse and the hotel. Golfers wanting breakfast will have to use the hotel at a price of 19 euros, for breakfast that is. They are also asking La Torre residents to sign into their community website to register their vote to re open Pinos. I did ask if they would tell me what they were going to do with the signatures once they had them but as yet no one has come back. Is it Willywonker on here that also owns at La Torre? If so Willy, can you do your fellow Condadians a favour and find out who they are sending the petition to? I take it you will be registering your vote?

How absolutely fantastic - I'm out in Oct and again over the Christmas period with nowhere to eat but Campasol or further afield!!!!! I have always been an ardent member of the half full club, but my glass now seems to be more often than not half empty.
I also bought the club card which I will not be able to use in the restaurant now before it's due for renewal....... ha ha who in their right mind would renew now!
Does any body have any positive news re the club house or any other facilities????

I also wondered if the coffee shop would be in the golf club house. I hope I'm not right but I think PW feel the resort cannot sustain two food facilities -especially if the community get the sports zone up and running and re open the bar. I suppose you might have to bow to their knowledge as they see the figures. I think PW have some hold on the lease for the proposed clubhouse as I'm sure they still own that chunk of land where the club house is to be. I have generally visted CdA during what is considerd the off season and I do not want to be in the 'half empty' group (tried that- boring) but I did find the place to be deserted. But, that has been in the 1st two winters so maybe now that sales have improved and there are more owners next winter will be less quiet and PW will see that they can make a profit- albeit a small one.
For those poeple with minimal knowldge of running a food/drink outlet can I just say that its often extraordinarily expensive. Costs are high as food and some drinks cannot be kept endlessly and if you dont have sufficient custom you quickly run at a loss. Wages and running costs, such as electricity and water truly gobble up any profit and 'ticking over' as was suggested on another thread just isn't viable.
All that said I'm hoping at the very least an improved menu will be available at The Clover, if they have use of a proper kitchen in the restaurant..

Does anyone know the location that is posted at the council re the coffee shop and Golf club business? It just says R2.2 and R12 and is no one else puzzled that it has been filed by La Torre Polaris Hotel SL? I thought the only interest, if you can call it that, PW has on CDA now is Al Kasar?

I'd be surprised and and hugely disappointed if Polaris somehow wormed their way into running the clubhouse. They made no efforts when running the course to really help the golfers. Seems to me that things have improved immensley since Olagolf took over.
And if Polaris do run whatever bar/cafe is part of the clubhouse I'm sure they will manage to alienate most of their customers soon enough. Polaris may complain there are not enough people around for more than one bar or to keep the restaurant open but my view is that many people don't frequent the places because of the service they get. You can't tell me that if there was a great restaurant (and good value without a PW card) on CDA that there wouldn't be enough people to keep it going all year round.

Hi SMV,
I agree with you about being disappointed if PW end up with the clubhouse license, and that Olagolf are doing a fantastic job on the course, but it doesn't change the facts. It is, A FACT, you can go onto the Alhama Council site and see it for yourself in black and white. This is why I am puzzled, as far as we are aware PW own nothing on CDA apart from Al Kasar and yet it is LA TORRE HOTEL POLARIS SL that has filed the requests, one for a coffee shop and one for Golf Club business, both in the same location, R2.2 and R12 ??

Don't PW own the piece of land that the golf clubhouse is to stand on? That definitely came up on here months back when the clubhouse was first mentioned. I know it says on the AGM minutes that they only own Al Kasar and a couple of Naranjos Jardines but then this information appeared to explain the initial delay for Olagolf starting the clubhouse. Nothing seems to be straightforward where PW are concerned.

The closing of the restaurant is not good for the outlook of condado but i can see why they are doing it for financial purposes. When i worked at the clover last year Numbers dwindled in the 1st 2 weeks of september i remember taking only €300 in one full day.
Regarding cuz's comment. A few weeks ago i had a meeting with one of the directors of olagolf at mar menor, an interesting peice of information arose during teh conversation. He told me about the pricing strucutre he had planned and about the clubhouse coming flatpacked. However the reason why they could not ask for planning permission to build the original clubhouse due to Polaris World still owning the land that overlooks the 18th hole therefore the reason why you are seeing la torre have registered for a coffeee shop is due to this. I think the banks have struck a deal with polaris where polaris may take a cut of the profits as long as the banks/olagolf can run/open the intended shop.
That is just my opinion but i know for a fact that PW still own that land.

My understanding was the clubhouse was not going on the land overlooking the 18th...it was going somewhere back from the 1st tees.
Could it be that Polaris are letting them use the land overlooking the 18th in return for a cut of the takings.
Nothing with PW is ever straight forward...I think I'll only be certain of whats happening after the clubhouse has been built and opened.
But if PW is involved you have to ask why, if they think a coffee shop is viable, they haven't opened one up in Al Kasar. There's plenty of room and as the bar only opens at 3pm, no competition for most of the day. Then again I would be looking for a logical answer...

Hi Simon,
The restaurant has always closed on a Monday, so me thinks that the waitress has misunderstood what you have meant. when asking her about the winter shut down.

Yes the restaurant has closed im afraid however they are still using the kitchen in there and will still be serving most of the food on the restaurant menu. however you will have to eat in the clover, for most that have been here the past couple of weeks they have made a passage into the clover form the restaurant.
