Hi rich&bops,
I am absoutley thrilled that the golf clubs on mainland uk are not affected by the recession and I hope long may it last.
I only play golf in Ireland and Great courses like Portrush, Castle Hume, Spa, Ballyliffen, Foyle, Hedford, Portmarnock, Blackrock.... where staff take time pouring your Guinness and are happy to provide service. And I cannot emphasise enough they provide great food in comfortable and relaxing surroundings. Weather, what has weather to do with playing golf. Friends, craic, laughter and competitiveness.
When in Spain /Portugal I am on holiday, a few cold beers and a sandwich on the course (especially in Costa del Sol where the refreshment carts are always within sight, or doing their rounds). And aterwards at the ninteenth at, Los Olivos, Calahohda, Rio Real, Torrequebrada, La Pina. .....Tme to relax, chill out, talk rubbish, have a few too many and plan the night ahead. I can assure you I have never been approached as to my dress code. Years and years ago you wouldn't have played on some courses without proof of an official handicap, how times have changed.
Cheers
