moving to murcia

 Can anyone tell me what we would have to do to become residents in Murcia ?We are thinking of moving over next year and not sure where to start .thanks mejazi10

 The first thing to do is to sign on the padron in Alhama,  this will declare that you live here and will give you the right to vote in elections etc.  It will also help Condado as the facilities that the council have to provide is dependant on the number of residents, which is determine by those on the padron.   The next step would be to declare yourself a resident by getting residencia in Murcia.

If you are planning to bring a car over then you need to time the above correctly to avoid paying import tax i.e you need to own the car for at least 6 months and you have to import it within 60 days of getting your padron.

Before you make this move you should consider a number of issues

What age are you?  If retirement age you can get free medical care. If not then you need to be employed or self employed to qualify for healthcare. It is not a matter of being resident as in UK.

What will your income be? Pension? Is it paid in Sterling / euros  how will exchange rates have an effect on your income.

Do I have sufficient Capital to last a few years while you establish yourself.

Do you have children ?  Schools?  How much Spanish do you and your family speak?

Easy access to friends and family in Uk?  Have your family experienced separation from family before

getting on the padron and getting residencia is just the technical issues, what are the practical problems?

bring a right hand drive car will not be helpful, thought of changing it to left hand drive before coming over.

Personal goods brought over can be excempt from tax if changed over at the right time.

You must have a plan that is correctly researched and have a full understanding of the consequences before comiiting. There are many who have gone back. So really understand what you are doing. Problems are harder to reslove in a strange enviroment.
