New Security Gate Access Cards

I have just received my new card.  It seems like just a plain plastic swipe card with no data or information whatsoever built into it.  Is this correct?  Is it simply a bit of plastic or does it contain some magical powers secreted within to open the gate?  By the look of it, any old plastic card would do the same job.  ????

When I got mine in the ML offices the little chap went off with them to "activate" them! 

Have not used them yet as was leaving that day but will find out in three weeks and 1 day!  See you then

I experienced the same as Viv............there must be some electronic voodoo technology in the card.................I think.

I don't think that your Tescos club card will open the gate!

Delighted to say that I will be testing it for the first time this coming Saturday (the Condado card, not my Tescos club card)

yes you just put it against a white thingy at the gate and the gate opens, we used ours for the first time last weekend, although you have to be really close to the white thingy for it to work, as in almost touching it

We received it last time we were over. It worked well and stopped security quizzing us everytime we wanted to enter the resort. Yes, it just looks like a little plastic card! There is a sensor box at the entrance by the barrier.

On a slightly different note - does anyone actually think security reads notification emails of people visiting the resort? We always email time and date of arrival and we always have issues at security! Perhaps we just look dodgy?!

We got ours on Friday from the office paid 2 euros each for spares, and on the next 5 occasions we went out, both me and my wife max left them on the table!!!!!

However eventually after remembering them, they work perfectly

Just like to add, yet another wonderful weekend on Condado, played an amazing golf course with a good mate, travelled to lovely local villages and ended up outside Clover each night watching the stars. Back in 2 weeks xxxx

With regards to the emails, I've taken to printing a copy and taking it with me just to prove it was sent! The last one, with the help of Google translation was done in spanish, so at least they could read it at the gate! It didn't make any difference, they still asked for passports and were we owners or visitors etc. At least now we have the card we hopefully won't have to go through all this again. I'll have to ask for spares, we weren't offered those last time, so we only have one between us. I too couldn't get close enough to the little box, the guy had to do it for me! However, with regards to security, we are very happy that they're so vigilant.

All,

Do we need to order the cards in advanced from ML or just turn up with the passport and Apartment number. Apart from the posts on here, I have not formally be notified by ML or Security?

We found out about the cards via this forum, so we went to the offices in Al Kasar and asked for them. We just took our passports with us, that was enough.

Thanks, I will pop in during next visit. Is  there a limit on how many cards you are allowed?

M.L have told me you are entitled to one free pass and as many more as is reasonable but with a small cost of around 2-3 euros a card.
