Air con recommendations

Sorry to raise the subject again, but looking through the threads they seem to be a bit old and following our recent visit this month, decided that air con is a must.

So can anybody recommend a local company and give any advise on types available and prices please for a 2 bed on CDA?

 Apollo Air for me, having trawled through the various options I found them the cheapest & most efficient available. they fitted a system in my penthouse which provides hot & cold alternatives at roughly half the price of some of their competitors

I totally agree - Apollo were excellent for me. Turned up when they said, did the job and left.

Yes use Apollo for all my clients no problem and, have done lots on Corvera

When things go wrong, which they can, they actually come back to sort things out

This is good info.  Apollo Air brill and second to none when it comes to good customer service and instalation. Dont know how much but we paid approx 2,200 back in 2008 for a unit in every room, think it will be much cheaper now.

We have recently used Climazone. Had no problems with them and they turned up when they said they would. Managed to get a good discount for buying a unit for lounge and both bedrooms

Just to add another dimension to your thoughts, have you considered getting flyscreens so you are able to leave the windows open at night and let the breeze through the apartment.  We are unable to sleep at night with our air con on and I do know that this is the case with a few of our friends as well, it just seems to get toooooooo  cold even if it is on sleep mode. We slept this year with the windows open and shutters down but have every intention of getting flyscreens so that we can leave the shutters open as well. Just another consideration before diving in to an expensive purchase.

Good point, we had the windows open this time as not many flys around, but family still found it uncomfortable and to light with the shutters up all night.  Are the aircon units noisy or was it just to cold with them on?

I believe the newer ones are heaters also, can they be set to a comfortable temperature?

We use ours on a quiet mode and noise isn't an issue.  We always cool the room down first rather than waiting until you go to bed and then fall asleep with the aircon blasting away.  We find then we can set it to about 24/25 degrees and sleep comfortably.

But some people seem to pick up coughs/colds when they use air con.  Maybe they have it very low temp or high fan speed.

If I could sleep with the just the doors open I would certainly prefer to do so...but might wake up minus a couple of kids!!

My panasoinc units have a quiet mode and a timer, you can set them to switch off after an hour or so. On quiet mode you cant hear anything. They are also great heaters if you are out in the colder months.

They have some kind of e-ion function, which is supposed to do something positive to the air they put out, this is supposed to have health benefits (probably a gimic, but I have never had any health issues!)

Its also worth spending a little more on air condiotioners that are energy efficient, as lower cost units can be expensive to run.

Its nice to shut all the windows, keep out the flies and Laser toting noisy farrel children, then get the place nice and cool.

I wouldnt like to be without mine, in summer the apartments are too hot and between October and March, you will need some kind of heathing, as insulation is not great on these apartments. Those tiles floors are freezing on bare feet!

I now have prices from Apollo to look through. Do you notice much of a price hike between month when not used and a month used?

I dont really notice a big differece. I may be wrong here, but I would guess its less than a Tenner to be cool for a fortnight, a small price to pay when you come in out of that 40 degree heat!

 I think you will be glad if you go with apollo air as not only are their prices and workmanship excellent the big difference for me is the after sales service for which you will find they are second to none.

No the units make no noise whatsoever, we just find it too cold even though the temp rises to 24/25 with ours set on sleep mode.  During the day we open all the windows and let the breeze/gale force winds blow through the house, only problem here is the sand from the golf course seems to create a lot of dust, so I have to do more dusting/hoovering/mopping/sweeping. Suppose there are draw backs no matter what you do.  Don't know if we are just getting used to the heat but this year we only had our aircon on a few times and that was when we were getting ready to go out at night.  Certainly do agree that you need to get hot /cold aircon units as you will need the heat in the winter, I also know that a few have bought extra heaters as they say the heat for there units is not sufficient,  I think it is all just personal to each  family and there likes/dislikes.

Hi , we have air con fitted but prefer to have the windows open at night for fresh air so we recently had retractable flyscreens fitted. We used Kevins Flyscreens and they did us a good neat job.  For  two bedroom windows and the livingroom window on an upstairs Jardine we paid 350 euro, only took an hour.

 I think the energy efficient  air con units are the inverter type, the non inverter ones are slightly cheaper to purchase but are a false economy especialy if you rent out and they are left on day after day. Using air con units to heat can warm up fairly quickly but again work out more expensive to run than some other options
