Reported today was the signing of a contract transferring flight operations from San Javier to Corvera. The military will have sole use of San Javier. Interestingly enough, no date was mentioned. Perhaps somebody could let me know.

More importantly hw much will the taxi fare be from Corvera to Roda?

Thanks.

The haven't agreed a date yet. Corvera was supposed to be ready for Easter, now they're saying June.

BUT - lots of the airlines (especially Jet2) are not happy about having to move airporst mid-season. Jet2 have asked if San Javier cann be left open until the end of the Summer season - but who knows. I hope it stays open as I have flights booked for my mum right up to next September coming into SJ.

Re taxi - it won't be cheap. We live 30 mins from both Murcia and Alicante airport. The "proper" taxi rate to our house is €75. Although there are people around who will do it for €25. You just have to find them. I'm sure a new market will open in Los Acazares to get people to and from tyhe new airport.

morning,

when i was over last week i was told that the airlines have to be given notice (1 year i think) to move out of San Javier airport.  RyanAir have not been gien any sort of notice yet.

They are also doing building work in the airport, for the benefit of the travellers.  Why would they do that if they are to close the airport within 6 months.

Ryanair t's & c's accomodate this in 9.3

Reasons outside of their control they will bus you from Corvera to MJV if required. As for now they have your booking and money. Obviously worth a punt for the Irishman. Call it hedging your bets.

Looks like the future of Corvera airport is now even more up in the air (excuse the pun!) :

According to  http://www.tumbit.com/news/articles/5525-corvera-airport-on-hold.html  :

An anonymous source at the Ministry of Public works has confirmed that developments at Corvera International Airport are currently "on hold".

The opening of the airport, privately owned by Aeromur and to be managed and operated by state-owned AENA, is believed to have been blocked for "military reasons".

The unnamed source went on to say how, aside from economic reasons, the operation of the airport has been suspended at the eleventh hour due to the importance that the Murcia area, has in offering security for Spain, Western Europe and NATO in the event of a nuclear threat.

Although this has still to be officially confirmed by government sources, if done so it will bring questions as to why this issue has only been addressed at this late stage in the proceedings and after millions of euros in private and public investment.

It is perhaps inevitable that parallels are going to be drawn with Castellon airport.
