My 25 year old son wants to permanently move over to Condado in the quite near future and wondered if anyone knew if there were any jobs they knew of or how easy it would be to find one. He works full time at the moment in the uk with an insulation and scaffolding firm but feels he would like a change of lifestyle. He would try anything as long as it covered the bills. Any advice would be welcome as he will really need to get something in place before he makes the move permanently.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Regards                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Yvonne.

My thoughts on this are that his only real chance of employment is to set himself up in some sort of self employed capacity. Either through property mangement as in key holding, cleaning and setting up apartments for guests and owners who visit. or by thinking up some type of business thats in demand like handyman jobs.  Otherwise I think this is a no go for your son and I'm not sure there would even be enough work in those idea's I've put forward to enable a reasonable lifestyle. I'd suggest setting up a taxi business but I think most people prefer to hire a vehicle because the taxi fares to and from airports are incredible. Plus it's not straight forward to start that type of business up in Spain. There are already a few resort residents who do that sort of thing so he wouldn't be bringing anything new to the resort and would have to compete with established companies.

As he's not already living on the resort or a regular well known visitor there's little chance of employment in the bars or restaurant- any vacancies will soon be filled because residents are on hand to hear about things right away. Very much doubt Camposol and any local town could offer any employment for precisely the same reasons.

I have read that  both Paramount Park and also Corvera airport now have office's or agencies dealing with employment enquiries so he could do a google search and see what that produces- but I would think he'd need to have a reasonable command of Spanish to get far in any application.

With Spain having 50% youth unemployment and adult unemployment heading that way I'm afraid just coming across a job is going to be very unlikely.

TheQuietMan is correct is what he is saying about having to start your own business as the employment situation is grim, especially for new people coming to Spain and of course without language skills

I was recently looking for staff and was inudated with applications but the biggest problem is that it costs a lot to become legally self employed, wth everything around €350 per month before you earn anything and the cahnces of getting a contract job are very slim

If you do work ilegally on things like keyholding and property management you will face competition and legal established businesses ready and willing to report you to the tax people

For the airport jobs there were thousands of applications with preference given to local unemployed people, local jobs for Paramount are a long way off and the constructuon industry is in the toilet

The advice is that if you coming over and having to rely on work to pay your bills don't do it, you really need enough savings to survive at least 12-18 months, without needing to work and don't underestimate the cost of living

In my own case it took me 2 years of work to create a business that paid the bills

If I gave the impression that starting a taxi firm is an easy business and that the hiring of one is too expensive, my apologies that wasn't my intention. We do want people at CdA and obviously not everyone can drive so the taxi service on offer is invaluable- maybe with the advent of Corvera it wont seem particularly pricey. Consider my knuckles rapped!

I'd agree that to come over now you'd need at least those 18 months to 2years of savings.

Thank you all for your reply's. I have passed on the messages to my son. He does realise it certainly wasn't going to be easy to just move over and start a job straight away but just wanted to put the 'feelers' out, as it were.  It would be a big step for him and he  will have a lot more research and saving to do before he makes that move! Thank you, Yvonne x
