Hi Mejazi,

The additional cost of the overnight ferry is significantly more than the tolls however is a nicer experience. If you are using the Channel Tunnel you can pay for this in Tesco clubcard vouchers which is a good shout. For route maps Via Michelin is great and will tell you toll costs and fuel costs for whichever route you chose.

We drive 2-3 times a year.... with 4 kids and it is not that bad in fact i quite enjoy the sights ...Paris , millau bridge and the pyrenes.

just came back last week tolls one way were 120 euro if you go shortest route on tom tom.

Fuel in France was about 1.60 euro for litre.

I would also advise looking at ferry to dunkerque as this seems cheaper and only 15 mins from callis

i would only say this would save if you are taking alot of stuff or few people

Good Morning!

There is also another option you might be interested in, the operators are LD Lines and GLDAtlantique - they offer a landbridge package starting from the uk Newhaven-Dieppe France and then StNazaire-Gijon and of course return. You then get to visit both France and Spain and enjoy the experience of visiting these countries!

The Brittany Ferries sailing to Santander mentioned previously benefits from travelling direct without stopping, however if you did decide on driving you can find tickets from Uk to France (very popular Dover-Calais+Dover+Dunkerque) for the same duration (both roughly 2 hours) and with prices starting from £25! Of course depending on where your final destination is you will need to calculate petrol prices too!

You can visit the ferries to Spain section on  http://www.aferry.co.uk/ferry-to-spain-ferries-uk.htm, there's a Guide to Spain and special offers. I hope this has helped, if not by any means please just skip!

Best Wishes,

Gina

Hi Iain

We did the santander crossing last year and loved it so much we're doing it again this year. The boat's got everything on it with three restaurants, 3 bars, 2 cinemas and a swimming pool. The entertainment is good fun and the kids loved it.

The drive down through Spain is both easy and beautiful with all the differing scenery as you head south. Virutally no cars and I filled the car only once 90 miles south of Madrid. Its 580 miles roughly from Santander to Condado and we had only to pay 22 euors in tolls each way which I was happily very shocked by. We stopped in a Holiday Inn Express in Leganes (South Madrid) and for the four of us including breakfast it cost 55 Euros which was amazing value too.

Good Luck  and have a good trip what ever way you go.

Cheers

Jay & Lisa
