Hi Annette and Kev. Been busy with houseful of guests for March so not had a lot of time to post but trying to catch up.
This is everyones favourite subject. The weather. Monday our guests had breakfast on the patio and got sunburned today it was 5 degrees. The weather here varies a lot during the Winter and Spring months.
The winter here is from December to February. You get lovely sunny days most of the time but that does not mean it is not cold. February through to sometimes Early May can be very changeable with some lovely warm weeks and then cold ones or days intermingled. It is so difficult to explain to people because it is nothing like the UK . The winter cold is dry. The lowest temperature we have experienced is minus 12 for one week 2 years ago. We have had snow fall 3 years out of 6. The Spanish tell us prior to this they had not seen show for 36 years. When the sky is clear and blue during the day it will be colder at night and will warm up again by 12 noon until the sun goes down and it gets cold instantly. The winds can also be cold and gusty. Everybody if they are going to use their new home at any time between October and May will need to have heating of some sort if you are going to live in it full time get central heating. Once again I reiterate the winters are not the same as the UK. It is not damp and dreary with grey skies all the time it is dry will sun and it can feel colder because its dry. Also after you have lived here for a while you will get accustomed to the heat of the summer and feel the winters more.
The Spingtime is vary variable. anything from 4 degrees to 23, wind occasional, rain occasional but still cold at night.
In general the difference between the coast and here is approx. 10 degrees so if its 18 in Alicante it will be round about 8 here.
The summer is hot but more bearable than the coast due to the dry heat. Unless we have had an unusual amount of rain there is little humidity However the rays will burn you real quick. With a hat or a buggy and some good sun creeam you can play golf most times during the day and not have to tee off early morning or late afternoon as you do on the coast courses. In theory your ball should go further due to the dry heat. In theory
Mosquitos again are few due to the dry heat and lack of humidity. but a few are still too many. At the SADM course they intend to have water holes so you may get more mossys due to the still water. Mossy screens however are good for keeping unwanted cats and other flying insects out which, combined with grilles (rejas) also makes it possible to sleep with your windows open at night, letting the breezes blow through in relative comfort.
All the above info is what I have learnt in the years that I have lived here. I knew nothing when we first came here arriving on the 16th December with just one jacket and waking up the first morning to minus 4.
This year has been the exception warm compared to the previous 6 years but I think the same can be said for most of Europe.
I hope the above is helpful. I Personally would not swap it to go back to UK weather and I would not want to actually live on the coast in the summer cos after a while (a couple of years anyway) you really do want to get out of the sun.
