Bob is three years off 65 and qualifies for free prescriptions in the UK. He does require a number of repeat prescriptions which would cost a lot of money if we had to pay for them.
Is there is someone out there who can tell us what the situation is regarding repeat (hopefully free) prescriptions in Spain?
Thanks

Can't really help you but have a look on the general posts on www.yeclaserve.com
a chap called Mike is very knowledgable
I would post a question on there you may get an answer
I suspect you will have to pay in Spain as it is only general healthcare which is free to the over 60's

To the best of my knowledge you pay for all prescriptions over here. The doctor gives you the prescription you take it to the pharmacy and pay over the counter. If you require injections or drugs that have be administered by a nurse or doctor, you go back to the surgery. I am not an expert on cost of drugs but those which I have had to buy here (usually things like Migraleve, antibiotics) are cheaper than the UK. The pharmacists have a lot of medical knowledge and you can buy certain drugs without a prescription. Some pharmacies will also monitor blood pressure for you for free and you can ask for a blood test whenever you want one which costs about 35 Euros.

Thanks Linda for that information. There seems to be so much to think of when relocating to another country so every bit of information we acquire is extremely helpful.
Bob needs regular eye checks at the hospital for his eye condition but we have been told that the quality of health care out there is excellent. We just hope we find a doctor that can speak English until we eventually become competent at Spanish.
Actually, Bob's brother and sister-in-law, both in their 70's, live out there quite successfully even with their various ailments so I don't know why we are worrying.

Hi Jackie
I don't know about doctors, but when we stayed in Jumilla for a week last year, I had a problem with my eye, and decided to try and get something at one of the Farmacias. I looked up the relevant words in my Spanish dictionary before going in, and tried them out, only to be asked "Do you speak English?" The pharmacist then discussed things with me in perfect English, before prescribing some eye drops.
