Hi Jonathan,
The equivalent of our council tax is IBI here in Spain which is collected by local government. If you are a non resident there are other taxes which may apply to your owning a property in Spain. (you even have to pay tax on the fact that you could be renting your property out even if you aren't !!).
If you are unsure you should consult a tax advisor but the following page gives you most of the information you will need to get to grips with things.
Hope this helps

Jonathan,
you were probably not aware of not paying it because the first year was paid by Corvera, I'm told! The bills are to be found in the Corvera offices because the postman refused to put them in the letter boxes because the council left off the Buzon numbers! When I checked I found that there were a number of bills there, one of which was from Oct 2009! The office won't inform you they are there, even when you go in about something else! You are supposed to be psychic or something!
For my apartment, 3 bed Laurel it was 344.66 euros. Has to be paid in a rnage of named Banks by the 5th of July. In the future you can set up a Direct Debit.

I popped in with the bill and paid the council tax at the council offices in Murcia - it is next to the bridge in the old town. There was someone who spoke English - it was pretty straight forward in the end - they took my bank details and will collect the sum due every six months by direct debit. If my bank had been one of thie recognized ones (it wasn't) then we could have paid by Internet banking.
Hope this helps - I wouldn't pay someone to do this for you.

Some helpful info.
You can request that a copy of any outstanding bills be emailed to you by calling the Recaudacion office on 968 355002. There is someone there who speaks english. You will be allocated 5 days to pay, then the payment date will expire and you have to request a new one. You can pay at a bank branch in spain and then set up a direct debit for future years
There is no need to employ someone to do this for you.
Regards
Jonathan
