Does anyone know how to get to the blue lake in the Sierra Espuna?  Is it accessible by car, if so, can you give directions please?

Thanks

Hi,

Cant give directions but we have been there by car, if you go to the Mariposa Hotel they will give you directions how to get there.

 HI,

Its not easy to explain how to get there, but here goes.

Go to Alhama, pass town hall and where market is.  Keep on past medical centre on right and drive for a couple of km. You should see the canal on your left and just keep following that for a  few kms. Lake should be on your right, although we never actually drove all, the way their. Its really nice, but like most places in Spain very badly marked. Something like Ireland.

We are in Jardin No. 7 and also from Cork. Going out end of August for 3  months, so if you are around, give us a shout.

It's also accessible from the road to Pliego - turn right at sharp bend about a mile before the Mariposa - follow the dirt road alongside the canal for probably a couple of miles - it's a crappy road but quite safe. The lake is on your right as you go.

Signposts for Pliego and the Sierra Espuna are clear in Alhama,

Visited this place today, but only got as far as the viewing area.

Does anyone know if it's safe to swim in?

 Hi

We went there last year with Mark from the Mariposa, he said it is OK to swim in, and quite warm even in winter. Not tried it ourselves, but would recommend the quad bike tour to the lake from the Mariposa and they also do kayaking on the lake, it is stunning.

Hope this helps

Ken

We've swam in there a few times. After a dusty quad ride on a hot day, there is nothing better

Guys and Gals

Can I just ask if this is Algeciras you are referring to or somewhere completely different as I'm intrigued.

Thanks

Gabe

Ahh, that makes sense, thanks Phil

I drove over there before Christmas via Librilla, it's a stunning view from up top.  I didn't know you could get down to the actual lakes, mind you it was a pretty steep climb up after abandoning the car halfway due to the holes in the winding road etc

Maybe I'll try the route suggested below and approach from the low ground in a couple of week.

Thanks again

Gabe
