As Pommers has said, I have had Teleast internet and phone for some time, delivered by a small antennae situated on the roof of the block.

Teleast were supposed to be providing all services via the very advanced fibre optic system that was installed at Roda but so far are no where near completing the task. Resortalia may have up to date information.

Teleast seem to have the monopoly on TV on Roda, for some reason, though their rates are cheaper than Telefonica for phone and internet the prices they charge for the TV package seems high for mainly free to view channels, though no one to my knowledge has looked into comparison TV suppliers.

Since Teleast installed a new mast in the field opposit Roda and adjusted the antennae, the internet speed and reliability are much better as is the phone which at one time did continually break up.

You can still use Telefonica/Movistar for landline and internet but more expensive, you do NOT however have any choice of TV supplier currently. You do need to decide if you are happy with the limited number of UK channels supplied onsite for a small fee in your Entidad charges or purchase a digibox and pay monthly fees to Teleast for the extra channels they supply, check with them what is on offer. Sky is not a legal option.

You can also download ExpatShield on your pc to access BBC iPlayer as well as downloading filmon.com to give you TV choices over the internet.

Microwave TV is expensive whichever company you go with. They are all €20-25 per month and basically only offer the UK free to air channels.

One option is to go for an internet supplier like Europa and get their TV service for free although you need a 3mb connection. Have a look at thier website here http://www.europa-network.com/tv/

Their Internet service is about €20 pm and phone about €14 pm rental plus calls.

TV is Free to watch on your PC but if you want to watch on your TV then you have to buy their set-top box at €130.

We'd like this as our house - but as we live out in the sticks we only get a 1mb connection :(

Re WiFi. I have a (cheap) Samsung mobile which has the facility of setting itself up as a WiFi hotspot.

I have a Spanish Sim from YoiGo which is pay as you go, this allows me to use the Samsung as a WiFi router and it is working fine in my place on phase 3. Buying a Sim is also beneficial because the calls are much cheaper also!

The phone I have is unlocked. I use it on the Three network at home (on the tube to and from work) as a wifi router to my Blackberry play book with the internet usage coming from my three monthly allowance. And yes I have a blackberry for work so it's bridged to the play book at the same time.

The Internet seems to be working fine on my wife's iPad. This may be the most effective and cheapest way in Spain - no dongle needed.

Mike

Ah - so you're effectively using your phone as a dongle then!

Are you on PAYG or contract? How much does it cost per day?

I've tried using my UK Mobile in Spain and it costs a FORTUNE! Like €1 per mb download. So a fairly light days surfing the internet from a laptop cost me about €8.

I believe Spanish phones on PAYG to access internet are about twice the price of UK ones!

I've also used my UK dongle to surf on my laptop and this cost me £10 for 2 days - on a per mb basis.

My Oranfe dongle is actually the most cost effective. About €3.80 per day but without limits.

Pommers,

Better than a dongle - a WiFi hotspot.

When in the UK I use the three network.

When in Spain, a YoiGo pay as you go SIM card gets inserted, giving me local rate calls in Spain and cheaper international. The three sim goes in a spare phone for incoming calls.

The internet usage is part of the bundle - perhaps somebody can decode the tarrif page on the YoiGo web site. This is what the Phone House staff recommends.

And this works on my tatty old netbook as well! Far too much tecnology.

Mike.
