Hi Everyone

Has anyone found out anymore about if the community satellite is working for TV on the site yet?

If anyone is going out over the next week could they find out for us please.

This is still a grey area for us as we understood that the dish was there & then you had to buy a set top box for inside the house & pay a monthly charge as we do in the UK, but have been looking on various sites & some say that the monthly fee for Sky is not legal in Spain. It is another area were we are getting conflicting information.

We are really confused as the picture posted recently shows a dish on the top of one of the quads which indicates the community dish does not work. We remember being told that individual dishes would not be allowed. Has this now changed?

Please please help me understand what we need to do - I know it's sad really that we want a TV when we are out in such a lovely country!!!!!!!

Thanks in anticipation

Sue

Hi Sue

We were in Spain last week and were told that the community tv ariel is for spanish t.v only and you need to get a mesh dish like the one in the picture to receive english channels and some sky channels. There is a one off fee for installation and a monthly fee for receiving these channels.

Hi Christine & Paul

Thanks for the info.

We originally understood that the community satellite could be upgraded with more channels if everyone wanted to pay more towards it by way of community fees, but as we are on phase 1 & completing next week, I would imagine that the committee will not be set up until the site is completed sometime in 2008, but we cannot find out anymore on that subject

Thanks again

Sue

Hi Iain

Would appreciate the info on the mesh aerial system.

Does this mean that we will have individual systems? It would make sense for each quad or a couple of quads to get together and organise it so that we've not got 4 aerials on top of each quad all doing the same job.

We can't live without Sky sports!

Donna

ps- Good luck to Sue & David - hope it all goes well!

Hi Folks

We are buying up the road from you at Balsicas.  Just checked your forum before (done it before to see the awful flyover over the railway).

Suggest you check out our message board in Torre Alcantara and go to the Sky Satalite one.  Might be of some advantage.

Good luck and happy watching!!!

I found an ad on the net for TV installation for a one-off payment of €459 (10 channels) or €559 (20 channels).  The contact details are:Telephone Darren on 00 34 618 24 44 86.

There is also a personal recommendation (from someone on Dream Hills 2, Costa Blanca South, I think):

"Daz installed our TV system whilst we were out in Spain and he has done a brilliant job even down to the cable ties being equidistant and facing the same way.  No ugly inside cabling, fantastic value for money and if you have any problems he'll get back to you."

I don't know if he is the same Darren as mentioned by KC60 on the Torre Alcantara Development's Sat TV thread already mentioned on this thread, but with no monthly payments, it may be worth investigating.

Diane

Hello San Cayetano

Regarding Satellite TV. The communal TV system only gives you the basics, i.e. ITV1, 2 BBC 1,2 Channel 4, I was told you wont get SKY TV on it. The reason for this is SKY does not broadcast to Spain. Basically everyone who has SKY TV through a mesh system has it illegally.

My question would then be if you’re paying a subscription, who are you paying it to? It’s not SKY!!! That’s one to think about.

Basically what these companies / workmen are doing is hacking into the satellite and giving you your channels. There is a guy called Darren who is in Villa Martin who does them for 499 euros and that’s it, no subscription. I was told by the lady whose shop his flyer was in, that he had done loads in the area and had not one complaint and she was more than happy to let him advertise in her shop.

The one thing sky wont do is shut the signal down because there are probably thousands of x pats who have brought a sky box from home and are paying there subscription back home in the UK and are receiving it legally. I did here that sky are trying to shut down these companies who do install these mesh systems and apparently they have the support of the Spanish government.

Hi All,

We completed last week on bungalow facing the village. We met our next door neighbors who are living permanently there. They have been having real trouble trying to get sky installed. Taray say we cannot have ariels on the roof as is doesn't belong to us. We must wait for the community to be set up and for the penthouse owners to agree, which could be another year or more!!!

Apparently  the 4 blocks facing village are all picking up a different  amount of channels some 16, others 32 and our poor next door neighbours only 10  and all spanish.

Anyway we got a couple of fella's  round and were told that we would ( in block 2) need  roof ariels as the signal was  very poor lowerdown. They did say that Taray will have to approve for a sky dish to be connected to the existing system. Some people living there are quite upset about all this as you can imagine.

Anyway apart from that we are very impressed with the site, the weather was great, food good, wine cheap and hopefully we will get it sorted.

Regards

Pat and Jim

Hi Pat,

Are you in a corner bungalow? When I was onsite last month  I'm sure I saw some satelite dishes attached to the side of the apartment blocks.  They weren't on the roof.

Hello Karen,

The ones on the corner of the apartment blocks are the communal dishes for the Spanish TV. We would have to link into them but apparently need so many of the community to agree. Also your mesh dish would have to be positioned up high (on roof/wall of the penthouse above as very bad reception signals any lower, so will need permission of penthouse owner living/owning above yourself.

I dont really understand all this technical stuff so if anyone out there can explain better, it would be appreciated.

We are going out again on Saturday so shall see if anything different.

Regards

Pat
