This is a warning to anyone who has had a very high water bill between march and june this year, I was talking to a couple who have had a bill for 263.54 euros for this period.

The property was empty for this period and there is nothing anyone can do about tthis. They have been to millenium to report this. And to the water board. But the outcome is maybe someone rented their property when they did not know. This is obviously not so as the electricity would match this and there is no electricity use for this period.

HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE

Someone in the penthouses had a very high bill and they too had to pay this. PLEASE TURN YOU WATER OFF AT THE MAINS BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR PROPERTY.

 Dear All

We tend to turn our water off at the mains, one of the reason for this is that our toilet flush is somewhat temperamental and sometimes starts and continues to flush a small amount of water on its own, if this is over a period of months this could add up to a larger than average bill.

We have a padlock on our water meter cupoard and  we cannot turn the water off without breaking the lock.

Hi
Yes we have had a bill for January to march period of 860 euros...electricity 1 unit...no one stayed...
Water board have confirmed faulty meter but believe I broke into the meter and sabotaged to avoid the bill for leaving water running when we last stayed there in October last year even though I can prove water meter show 4x water usage in jan to march from October to December period..my taps turned themselves on a little more in the new year......the meter when replaced was spinning round from someone walking past it...
Currently complaining via consumer association and new meter installed...next stop solicitors...
Don't expect to win this one...seems like only winner is urbaser
Did notice since our complaint only urbaser have a key to the meters (previously security did too)
Thanks
Dave

Where this type of thing has occured at MCC 99.5% of cases have been attributable to a leak on the consumer side of the meter and often in the irrigation system, in a very few isolated cases others tapping into your supply on your side of the meter.

just be careful if you use the taps under the sink to turn the water off. I know (to my cost) that these things are not that sturdy and if the tap comes off in your haqnd - KNOWWHERE YOUR STOPCOCK IS IS and how to turn it off !!!!! Nightmare !

A few years ago an apartment in our garden had a big bill whilst absent. hey had to pay the cause was the toiet was dripping in to the bowl as the cistern was not set up correctly.  Also due to calcium build up it can also leak. Good idea to turn Bathroom water taps behind door off or better still apartment stop cock in Kitchen. Bath taps are also prone to leaking.

 Thanks all

Speaking to others it seems the only answer is to ensure the main stop cock is turned of dripping taps, dodgey cisterns and burst pipes can cause major problems so all be warned

 TURN WATER OFF WHEN LEAVING
