the socamex is your water and Iberdrola is the electricity

these do seem a bit on the high side.  have you used the property since you bought it?

our last bills were 57 euro for electricity and 27 euro for water 

we were over for a week in december  and had the aircon on for heating during this period so my last bills incuded this visit

There's a connection fee for both so probabaly okay but check the bills when you get them (or view Iberdrola online).

phil, are you the first owner or was it a re-sale, underpars comment about a conection charge is correct.

maybe we were lucky, but when we bought a re-sale last year our lawyer contacted ml and they sent a security guard to turn on the water at the meter. our first bills were about the same amounts for both water and electric no sign of a connection charge as both meters were already installed just needed the supplys turned on

Should only be the one set of charges Phil, both elec and water amounting to about 350 euros for meter connection. Does sound like it has been paid twice if that is the case. You used Pals didn't you? We completed today, I had to semd 800 euros to our bank account to cover elec and water meter installation and for house insurance, that will be deducted directly by the separate utility companies. If in doubt speak to the solicitors, thats what they were paid to sort out.....

Hi Kitchenman, we are pretty much at the same stage as our new neighbour Phil, are the amounts you quoted for you bills monthly/ 2 monthly? Would be great to be able to get an average usage so I can at least send an approximate amount over each month to cover the bills without making an extremely uneducated guess...

these are 2 monthly billls and we are over using the apartment every coupkle of months for a week at a time so these figures include heating in december and air-con in september of last year.

just a thought, but do you leave your electricity  turned on when you are not ther

 fridge/freezers will draw about 25kw per month of power if you leave them running all the time

other items that are left on stand-by will only be drawing a nominal amount.

we just turn everything of at the fuse board when we are not there so in theory no power usage apart from the standing charge

Thanks for the info guys, like Phil we are have just completed and will be out in March to sort a few things out. I think I can gauge a pretty good average now to start sending regular payments to the account that will hopefully ensure there is always enough in there to cover any debits.
