Bunty - it will really depend on where you are on Roda whethere a dongle is any use or not.
In the midst of Phase 2 my Orange dongle hardly works - too many other buildings around.
On the edge of Phase 3 it works like a dream.
I've heard the Yoigo dongle works ok in most places.
Internet - there is really only the one suppplier if you don't have a landline. And that's Internet Mar Menor - to be found on the corner of Balneario Plaza. You can do an initial 3 month contract and then have it switched off and pay a recconnection fee next time. Can work out expensive though.

We are using Teleast, they do a special rate for Roda, I think it's 21,00 euro a month for 6 mb, 3 mb will be about 16,00 euro, you can have it disconnected when you don't come to Roda for a while, reconnecting is 22,00 euro.

Teleast is good for cable TV and Internet Access.
i have an unlocked smart phone which I use with a Yoigo Sim Card which gives me a Spanish phone number and I use the phone as a portable hotspot (no need for a dongles with most smart phones).
Reception can be patchy but it is handy not having to find an WiFi hotspot to use.
Mike.

Hi Mike
As a total numpty with Smart Phones and having just acquired one - can you point me at somewhere on the web that will give me instructions of how to turn it into a hotspot
Mine is Spanish with rubbish user manual that is totally in Spanish to boot with no English version available.
PS Teleast trade as Internet Mar Menor in Los Alcazares

Pommers,
My Samsung:
Open Settings.
Select wireless and network settings.
Select tethering and portable hosts
Select Mobile AP Access Point.
Configure Moble Ap.
Give it a name, password and switch security on.
On my Blackberry, It's undder Network and Connections. and Mobile Hotspot.
This all starts using your data allowances which aren't as generous as the UK.
The phone has to be able to work with the network so if you take a phone out there unlock it or pay roaming data costs.
You should be able to download a manual for your phone quite easily from the internet.
You may see reference to 'tethering' this works slightly differently.
Mike.

Bunty,
I believe "Fowof" the computer shop in Mercadona arcade in Los Alcazares can also provide some kind of short or longer term internet connection. Might be worth checking out - they do speak good English.

Thanks Mike - I didn't even know you could do this!
Mine works a bit different but I think I get the gist! I can do bluetooth and USB testering too!
As I said, I'm a totally numpty with smart phones.
Oh for an English Manual. The phone is a relatively cheap and cheerful one and is actually made here in Spain.
Website in pretty good English though and there's a link that says ENGLISH MANUAL HERE
Noooooooo - you still get it in Spanish.
I've even emailed the company and they apologised profusely in very good English that there is no English Manual.
I ended up having to call their helpline to work out how to get my voicemail number set up. It was in a very hidden area.

I have a 6 MB connection in phase II, this works very well, and my actual speed is between 5 and 6 MB which is not bad at all,
I'm satisfied with Teleast, also with the service when something goes wrong,
and they do a special rate for Roda Golf as well.

@Hevs: download is unlimited
@Pommers: you have to pay the mast if you are the first in the block to install internet, otherwise they will use the mast that's already on the roof, it doesn't sound fair, but that's the way Teleast does it.

I think the fee is for the small antennae positioned on a pole not a mast and each apartment requires its own antennae currently as it is a microwave system bouncing off a local mast. Can be subject to weather and climatic conditions but better since they placed a relay mast in the field opposite Roda rather than bouncing off the mast on 525 Hotel. The only problem is that Roda is now seeing a proliferation of these small antennae springing up everywhere which is such a shame as aesthetically they are an issue to many. Such a shame that the major Spanish ADSL or Broadband providers prefer to sell for as much as possible to individuals rather than offer a deal on large bandwidth through the cable system to a Community to be shared around.

PS I believe Teleast are also offering an effective payg deal at 3 euros per day reducing if used longer but with a higher initial connection fee. Check with them if you are not planning on using it all the time.

Teleast dela is:
€3 for 1st day - €2 per day for the next 6 days (so 7 days = €15)
Then €1 per day (so €22 for 14 days).
There is also a rate per month - so €30 for 1 month, €60 for 2 and €90 for 3 months - so more expensive than the standard contract rate but can be cost effective if you just want for the summer.
There is also a €100 installation cost - as you actually have to buy the equipment.
So if you only want it for Summer visitors then is works out cheaper in the long run.

They are a lot cheaper than they used to be - but on top of the €24.90 there is the line rental as well to pay which is another €14.38. (plus €60 installation)
Most of us who rent out don't have a phone line though - and wouldn't want one for fear of clients racking up a huge bill.
As far as I am aware the 10Mb is available at Roda.
