Hi,I haven't been out for some months but had heard about the gates now having plate readers replacing the swipe cards. Are the swipes still functional as I have a friend out in a few weeks? Thanks John

Still working now, the plate readers seem to but unreliable though and only work half the time. Would be stupid to turn off the card/remote control readers as these work fine and many owners paid the €50 for the remotes.

We have had a remote for about a year, best 50 Euro I have spent..we seldom have a problem with it!

We were out last month and I called in to get an addidional spare card to replace one I drove over when it fell out of my shorts.
ML said all cards would soon be defunct as the plate readers would be taking over at some stage.
This is stupid as 80% plus of all owners use hire cars. On your first entry of each visit you will have to register your hire car with security. How long will that take?
Meanwhile burglars can come and go with impunity!!!

Point well made.
we we out last week and forgot to take my card. After several days of security checks, every time that we came back on to site ( good to know that security is being more vigilant) i was told to register my hire cars registration with millenium, When I went to the office to ask for a new card they said that they were no longer issuing cards as the number plate readers were working, they actually asked when we would be leaving so they could remove the details of the hire car from the system after that date. once this was done i had no problems with the card readers letting me in

Wouldn't worry too much the plate readers have never worked for more than a week at a time in the past five years so doubt they will work any time soon. as you said it would be daft to turn off a working system but then they have spend 10's of thousand trying to get the plate readers working so who know what they will do.

only time will tell if these readers are going to work long term,
we are moving over on a permanant basis later in the summer and i know that if i have any issues with the readers i will be asking for a replacement card to leave in the car.

Agree, Can't understand why we are spending 1000's try to get the plate readers working when we have a good system already. will they really keep the system upto date with all the changes of hire car?

Just got an email confirming the cards being discontinued 27th May.(the day before I go out!) I'm surprised the garden presidents let that through. So every time I arrive I have to go through a rigmarole at the gate, then you can bet your life they'll go on the blink every so often! Why not let the two systems run side by side as the swipes work well,ie the people who have permanent cars could register and have the gate automatically open, then the rest could swipe? Sincerely hope I'm wrong but seems a bit of a backward step. J

Hi
I agree. Surely it is better to keep the gate swipes as they are already in opperation. We have never had a problem with them
What a waste of money having them removed. What bright sparks agreed to that I wonder.
If you are arriving in a rental car does this mean we have to text Millenium once you have picked up your car?
What happens if the office is closed & you arrive late or during a holiday period when the office is closed???

Hi, just to be clear I am not being negative and do support change for the better but I do agree the swipe cards worked very well for non residents.
I sent the below to Milenium after receiving the notification but I've still to get a response re my query about visitors and identification.
Thank you. How does security tie this in with an apartment to confirm you are genuine and not in to do mischief? Is a passport or drivers license sufficient for anyone using our apartment when we are not there?

As per your enquiry, the security staff will need to identify you at the entrance gate upon your arrival during the visit. The passport or driving license are the documents you can show them. The day after, you can pop into our office and provide us the number plate of the car and the day of your leave. As you will be coming in the hired car, the register plate will be valid only during your stay.

Hi, how will this work for hire cars as you will not know registration until you pick the car up at the airport? Is it security that register the number when you arrive? What form of identity do you need to provide?

I was told, by Milenium, at Easter, the only way to register was at their office which seems like a lot of work.
I have emailed since to ask if they can make it possible for security to do this or to do this online via a registered email address or a web portal.
To date they have not replied :-(

It's worse than I thought. I was under the impression that security would log it and that would be it. In august for instance the number of people having to call round to log details will cause an issue I think. And if the system packs in the queues at the gate will be chaotic. I'm all for having good security but only see another layer of red tape in all this. And I feel slightly resentful at having to go round to al kasar and queue up to register a hire car very time I go to condado, because normally you have to wait to talk to someone. It's our resort after all and access should be secure but easy for an owner. Not good. John

Then give us your thoughts everyone??
Its great moaning about security this and security that but apathy rules in many forms.
Do we give an outside contractor (Security) all out personal details about who owns and who doesn't??
What happens if the security contract changes??
Who do we trust with all our details??

Your points -
"What happens if the security contract changes??
Who do we trust with all our details??"
Are sensible ones but so too are the comments made by JayDee

I suppose we will have to see just how good or bad things turn out once the school holidays in September are over.
What happens if every one`s fears come true & there are long queues both in the Millennium office & the gates
Will there be further costs when they go back to the original swipe cards.
I think Millennium & those who voted for this may have made a rod for their backs but presumably it will be the staff in the office that will have to bear the brunt of it
Only time will tell.

Back to the original days of no swipe cards and gate entry via security, never once saw a big queue back then (and residents would be the ones nipping on and offsite during the day whereas I might leave the site once a day tops so personally i won't be registering my hire car as the queue at ML will take more of my time than a bit of a queue at security a couple of times a week to prove who I am ...........
I agree with the new system, it's what was always intended

As I said earlier, I agree with the new system, just not the way of registering.
In this online world, queing at an office with limited opening hours is not the way forward.
We are implementing modern technology to control access, implement modern technology for registration !!!

I suspect like a lot of people, we fly out early Saturday morning to maximise our holiday time. Swipe cards have always worked for us, picking up a different hire car each time As ML are closed at weekends, we will have the inconvenience of having to go to their offices first thing Monday morning to join the queues of people doing the same, as well as having to sort something out with security on saturday and sunday. As others have said, a way to send your reg number by text message as soon as you pick your car up, with ML having your pre registered mobile number would be a step forward. I guess we'll have to see how it beds in and what the budget looks like in the future for possible upgrades
