Hi All

Just pondering over the phones and broadband situation........and am wondering if anyone has had any communications installed as yet.

If so, who is the supplier? How easy was it it do? How long did it take?

Thanks

Donna

Hi Donna

From what we can understand you cannot get connected until after the habitation licence has been granted, People that have already moved in who we have spoken to seem to be using mobiles at present which may explain why none of the full timers at San Cayetano contribute to the forum on a regular basis as they would have to visit an internet cafe.

Would be interesting to hear if anyone has managed to get connected yet.

Sue

Hello Donna,

The supplier of most phone/Broadband installations is Spain seems to be 'Telephonica'. They seem to have the market pretty much sewn up, unlike the UK, where we have a great deal of choice. I have also read somewhere (cant remember where!) that until enough people want lines installed - and presumably the habitation licence thing affects this as well - you may not be able to get conencted.

On the positive side there already seem to be a number of 'boxes' set into the ground around the development with the 'Telephonica' logo on them, and as far as I can see all the internal cabling and sockets are already present in the properties, so it would seem that most of the infrastructure is already in place and once the habitation licences are available and enough people have expressed an interest it shouldn't take too much to get things going...

Regards,

Les.

Hi All

Thanks for the info - its as I thought, really. I'm going to emai Taray and see if they can offer anything further. My concern is that  Andy needs the broadband in order to operate his business and if it is going to be a considerable length of time after completion before we can have it installed it will possibly delay us. That's the last thing I want.

Will keep you posted if I hear anything different.

Donna

FYI

I have just spoken to Taray customer services department directly and asked the question regarding the installation process for broadband and phone lines and they have told me that as the property will be 'pre-installed' it will be a matter of arranging with telefonica to connect us up. She said that it doesn't make any difference whether we have the licence or not but what does make a difference is if there are a lot of people applying at the same time. They are more likely to act quickly if there are a lot of neighbours requesting installation at the same time than if any of us apply individually.

So, that is that then!   Unless anyone knows anything different...............

Donna

Hi Donna

We spoke to our solicitor this morning about lack of LFO. She seemed very adament that you could not connect a telephone line without this license. She said years ago you could get away with it but all utilities now have to deal with a legal address. Not trying to condradict what you have said just posting what we were told. Maybe Taray could explain further how we could connect without it, maybe they have a realtionship with telefonica or something!!!

Sadly, Tina

I do believe you to be correct as what Taray told me this morning contradicts everything that you read and are told by the 'professionals'. I know that we're not due to complete until March 08 but when we actually move will be determined by the phone and broadband scenario which in turn dictates what we do with our house here etc., etc.

Its all such a muddle. I just hope that we don't have to wait for the new development across the road to be completed before we can be installed - now that would be a complete nightmare!

Hasta luego.

Donna

Hi,

I looked at the telefonica website a couple of months ago - as I am keen to have broadband installed. There is a straightforward English version and I think it stated that you are more likely to get the phone lines installed if you apply "in bulk". This is because of the cost of putting a "remote" line in - and I also believe that , like the rest of the utilities, they won't even do a site visit until the LFO is in place. You might find the link on a different message a couple of months ago.

I don't think we will have to wait for the next development - that has a different name - but we may have to wait for Hacienda San Cayetano to be completed....
