hi, I don't know if I am the last one to know about this or I am one of the few that know about it, I am talking about an annual insurance for car hire which can be taken out over here and then negates the need for the additional 20+euro charge that is made each time we hire a car.
The insurance covers all the add ons that we usually have to pay for (tyres, windows etc) and also covers you for the thing which is never explained, namely the excess. If you were to be unfortunate enough to damage the car you would be liable for the excess, this is never disclosed when you get to the hire desk, but can be as much as £500, ( more on the larger cars) the first time anyone knows about it is when the excess is debited from their credit card ( remember, we have to give our credit card number when we take the car).
The company we have found that offers the best for us, (either of us to drive) is Insurance4carhire.com we paid £50 for the year, which, if you do only three trips, has paid for itself and gives much better cover.
