Irrespective of the rules on pets, I urge everybody who is taking one out to Arenal Golf (or any other apartment complex) to exercise EXTREME CAUTION.
I have an Atico Penthouse on Phase 1 and we decided to spend this winter out there. We took our two dogs ( 1 x 13 year old Westie and 1 x 18 month old Jack Russell) with us. We always knew there was a risk attached to doing this given the height of our apartment, particularly the lively Jack Russell, but we are taking steps to mitigate this by installing trellis's to the lower walls and plants, etc. However, on Sunday, Chester (Jack Russell) jumped over the wall and landed on the concrete floor 4 storeys down. We had left the patio doors open a few inches. My wife was cleaning the terracing and I had taken some gardening rubbish to the bins at the top of the road. I was gone two minutes. When I returned I could hear Chester barking. I couldn't understand why my wife was letting him do so. I asked her why and she replied he wasn't barking. I followed the bark to the second bedroom terrace and peered over the edge. It's a drop of around 50 feet. He was walking around in circles barking !!! At that point I couldn't understand how he had got there! He would surely have died straight away. I ran downstairs and discovered the apartment that owns the garden was locked up. I noticed him limping and at that point my heart came out of my mouth. I had to climb down the wall to rescue him. We took him to the vets and he wasn't in a good way. They took an x-ray and this showed internal bleeding. He also has a broken front leg. The last few days have been the worst days of our lives as we love our dogs. They are our children. It is miraculous that at this point he is alive. I've just had a phone call to say they have fitted a plate to his leg and that he's coming out of the anaesthetic. He may be able to come home tomorrow !!!! I simply can't believe this. It defies all logic to me. We are the luckiest 'family' on the face of the planet. Please tell others about this story as it may prevent a similar story, albeit with a less likely outcome.
Thanks.
