Who are these sad people who want to come on holiday to Spain to watch Sky television?

I personaly keep an open mind, why not have television in your own language and enjoy all the other advantages of Spain .Enjoy what is available ,it is an excellent way to unwind between wind surfing and drag racing.

I used to have the mentality that I wanted to indulge myself in the traditional Spain ,and I bought a Casa in a traditional Spanish town and tried to  learn the language, just like the book Driving over Lemons and it was boring. So we bought an apartment near the sea ,close to fantastic faclities and fabulous restaurants and Satellite TV  is just another option. But we am going to wait until the community decides .

That is a fair point.

I was going to mention in my previous post that most people who are out there for a short time will only be using the apartment to sleep in, and if they want to watch a football game that's on sky, they'll probably rather watch it in a pub somewhere.

Having said that, I can also see that sky tv will be a positive thing for many people on the develpment, such as the brits who are living in Thalassa. I'm sure that a compromise will be reached at the meeting.

Regards Dean

As Keymare pointed out to me . You cannot put a dish on the roof . "It is trespassing and does not belong to me. The roof and access to it belongs to the man on the top floor!"

" And you cannot run a cable down the wall because the wall is not yours!"

The apartment we are buying is on the top floor, we are that top floor apartment but there is a dish or two up there somewhere, how do I get up there I wonder? With regards to running the cable down the wall, our downstairs neighbours have had the Sky installed as they are permanent residents, but the cable is not attached to the wall in any way, just hanging loosely.

Hi,

Not sure how you are managing this issue at Thalassa. My advice is to try and form a cooperative with your neighbours who may be happy to run off the one dish (believe at least 4 links can be established to one dish) - this should overcome all potential objections with the placement of the dish. You would also be wise to start canvassing for a majority of residents to vote for the acceptance of Sat T.V dishes at your general meeting, which would resolve the problem regardless.

** EDITED ** Self promotion

Best wishes,

Dave H

Just to opne up this issue again. I have just returned from our apartment at AA Resort where satellite dishes are fitted. The way it seems to work is that the first person pays the full installation cost of 600€ or so to have a dish, digibox and feed (a quad lnb will be fitted to the dish). Thereafter, everybody that comes along afterwards and requires a feed, pays the dish owner a connection fee (not sure how much as we couldn't find the owner of the dish on our roof, but about 50€- 100€ so I believe). Once the four connections are full, another dish needs to be erected. There are octo lnb's, but apparently they don't provide a strong enough signal on all 8 outputs and can be problematic.

This is a view of the dish as it is mounted on our block.

1. Stood at the edge of the terrace:

2. Stood at the edge of the terrace with Zoom:

So as you can see, so long as the installation is done well, aesthetically, they are not too obtrusive.

HTH
