For some reason I couldn't post this thread on our new Thalassa site as it told me I had to be logged on which I thought I was as it enabled to draft the post in the first place, do you have to log on in more than one place?

Anyway, on our new web site it states that the outside pools will be open from June16th until September 16th when lifeguards will be on duty afterwhich it will be down to your own responsibility. This is where I am confused, we were led to believe that the law required the employment of lifeguards, at great expense, due to the size of the pools! do the pools shrink after September 16th?

Please dont get me wrong, the last thing that I would want is for the pools to closed when not under supervision however, I for one would be very interested to know just what the law states.

Finally, should the outdoor pools not be used until June 16th?

Hope you all have a great summer

Providing that the website will accept my posting, I am going to raise this issue.

All pools over 1.45M deep must have a lifeguard. There can be no swimming while the lifeguard is absent and lifeguards do not come cheap even if you can find one.
The above was taken from the Spanish Property Owners Guild (SPOG) website.

Help!

I have stayed in many hotels in Spain and the islands where there are swimming pools and have yet to see a lifeguard. Is it one rule for them and another for us?

Extract from the Decree 23/1999

Section 25. Lifeguards

  1. All swimming facilities for collective use with a [total] water surface of 200 square metres or more shall have lifeguards duly qualified to carry out activities of Salvamento y Socorrismo Acuático [rescue and life-saving techniques in the water] certified by the competent body or by a private institution.
  2. There shall be a minimum number of–
  3. one lifeguard in swimming facilities with a water surface between 200 and 500 square metres;
  4. two lifeguards in swimming facilities with a water surface between 500 and 1,000 square metres; or
  5. one additional lifeguard per pool or per fraction of 500 square metres.

I guess the first thing we need to know is what the surface area of each pool is & then the provision of lifeguards needs to be discussed next week.

Twowasps......
Last year the life gaurds were in attenadance, but left for 'siesta' between about 12 and 2 (can't remember exactly). we carried on as we were using the pool ( pretty much had the pool to ourselves last August). When the lifegaurd came back he waved and said hello, always polite and went to sit back on his chair.
I suppose we should of got out of the pool and waited for him to come back, try telling the kids...................................

I thought the pools were open from may, allthough a bit cold last week, allegedly, got the kids to test it, shivering kind of gave the game away  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards
