Goodstich
One of the positive actions by this Government has been the introduction of a web based petition scheme, where any petition gaining more than 100,000 supporters will be debated by Parliament. It may not have much sway over Spanish law, but surely, it would make worldwide news. Might it just embaress either the EU or Spain to make some positive changes? Surely we would get 100,000 to join an e-mail petition and then brief a sympathetic MP with evidence?
I realise that this has been bought up in Parliament before, but don't think it has been debated, which might just empower the UK Government to bring pressure on their Spanish counterparts.
As far as corruption is conmcerned, although I hold no truck with the recent rioters un the UK, I can see that they could be influenced by the morally corrupt practices of the rich and powerful. Whilst I consider that the rioters are now getting their just deserts, but would have been happier if all the politicians who had overclaimed on their expenses had been jailed for 4 years ( forefitted their property and were banned from ever again holding office) and the fat cat bankers who knew that they were taking unearned bonuses were jailed for maybe 10 years and made bankrupt. As for police who take thousands of pounds worth of free spa accommodation and think they have done nothing wrong, I might just chain them to a lamp post in Hackney for a few hours and let them discuss it with the good folk down there. But maybe I am being a little too soft on them all :-( What do you think?
