Haha, what are you doing? searching the cosmos in your spare time for extraterrestrial life? These have got to be communal dishes no? We live in a standard 2 floor house, I´ll never get permission to whack a 6 foot high paella dish on the roof. I saw an advertisement about 12 months ago, for a new satellite service in Spain that offered films and BBC Prime through my existing 60cm dish, for the life of me I can´t remember the name of it, and haven´t seen a single advertisement for it since. It was priced at 10€ a month which I thought was a bargain.

I used to belong to a Madrid forum years ago (9 or ten years ago), and ex pats on that reckoned they could receive an acceptable signal on a 120 dish, although they used to lose the signal around 9pm for some reason which I never fully understood (I thought the satellite was effectively stationary overhead and therefore the footprint shouldn´t move). I looked into it for a long while, prices of dishes, set up, sky card etc and in the end decided I was better off with Digital +. Just lately though, having more free time, I´m reconsidering.
Having said that, I´m sure if I wait a few more years any channel I want will be available, streamed, in HD via the internet, so I really have to ask myself if I want to try and mount a 2 metre dish on my roof.

No you´re right. I exaggerate. I probably didn´t punctuate mid-word, invent new ones and then make anagrams of others. Seriously, post this sentence somewhere, anywhere, and see if someone can decipher it:
"Drop out probab;y dure to temp inversion drficting signal skywards hence 1.9 meter job"

I WILL NOW ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN TEMPERATURE INVERSION AND THE EFFECT IT HAS ON THE TV SIGNAL
DURING THE DAY THE AIR TEMP AT GROUND LEVEL IS HIGHER THAN FURTHER UP IN THE SKY.
THE HOT AIR HAS A LOWER DENSITY THAN THE COOL AIR.
AFTER SUNSET THE HOT AIR RISES AND THE COLD AIR DROPS TO GROUND LEVEL
THE TV SATALITE IS WELL NORTH SO THE SIGNAL COMES IN AT AN ANGLE.
THE SIGNAL TRAVELS IN WAVES SO BECAUSE OF THE ANGLE ONE END OF THE WAVE HITS THE DENSITY CHANGE FIRST AND IS SLOWED BY THE DENSER AIR THUS IT PULLS THE WAVE AROUND MAKING IT CHANGE DIRECTION RESULT IS BASICALLY THE SIGNAL 'BOUNCES' OFF BACK INTO SPACE. SO WHILST YOU ARE MISSING CORRIE THE MARTIANS ARE ENJOYING IT.
COMPARE THIS TO DRIVING YOUR CAR YOU SEE A BIG LONG PUDDLE AND DRIVE ONE SET OF WHEELS THROUGH IT AND THE OTHER SET IN THE DRY AS YOU HIT THE WATER THAT SIDE THAT IS IN THE WATER SLOWS PULLING THE CAR IN THAT DIRECTION..
HOW TO TRY THIS AT HOME
WALK ACROSS THE ROOM WITH YOUR ARMS OUTSTRETCHED SIDEWAYS ASK SOMEONE TO GRAB ONE ARM KEEP WALKING. WHAT HAPPENS?
HERE ENDETH THE LESSON

That´s actually very interesting. My Dad was over last week and he took us to Parque de Atraciones in Madrid. He wanted to see what Madrid looked like by night so we went on this ride that took us up I don´t know how many hundreds of feet and he said to me "How can it be so much hotter up here than down there?" (because it was, significantly), I mumbled something about heat rising but he said based on that, the top of Everest should be like the Bahamas. I was too busy hanging on for dear life to think about it a great deal, but yeah, it makes sense.
Cheers for the explanation.

Glad you got it.
cities are hotter than the countryside because the buildings absorb heat during the day with result they give it off in the evening making it actually hotter than the day.
Where I live it tends to be 2c hotter at 8pm than midday.
oh did you get the powere cable

Hi guys, Power cable sorted, turned out it was just a figure of 8 lead costing €1.50. Now the hard part; well it is for me. I have read that using hdmi leads give superior picture and sound compared to optical digital leads. I have two questions, firstly the hdmi leads seem to have different ratings eg 1.2, 1.3, 1.4. Should I get the highest as I am buying a blu ray player, Humax freesat box and a soundbar or shelf speakers. Lastly what sequence should I connect all the appliances bearing in mind that I want the speakers to operate all the time and not just when playing dvds. Thanks Jack

Hi Smythie, sorry if my question was not clear. My old set-up has a scart lead from the tv into the sky box. Another scart cable from the sky box into the dvd player. My new tv has 4 hdmi ports. Is it as simple as running a hdmi cable from the tv into the hdmi port of the top box, another hdmi from the tv into the blu ray player and so on so in the end I have 3 hdmi cables from the tv into each of the appliances. If thats right then even I can do that. Regards Jack
