I know what you mean, I know ireland well but I lived in the Isle of Man before moving to Guernsey. Great place, lovely people - but the weather----!!  Funny story about me not locking my door over there too I returned home from a walk to see this hosepipe with water streaming from it coming out of my slightly open front door.  i opened the door and shouted, "Hello, what's going on?" and this plumber appeared and said, "I've come to change your tank and thought I'd start as you didn't answer the door but it was unlocked so i assumed you left the door open for me".  "What?" I said, "I don't want my tank changed" -  turned out he wanted to be at number 18!!!   He had to refill the system and bleed everything and must have felt a right idjut BUT i have to admit I made more effort to lock my door after that!  (A lost cat makes the front page over there, I think they only had one murder in the last 50 years and that was a come-over from the big rock).

Right on yep, an umbrella and plenty of spondulas.  Considering people in Ireland earn a pittance it has to be the most expensive place on the planet.  I think the people are nicer, as they tend to be everywhere when you're unloading your wallet on holiday yaaaaaaaaaaaaay happy days.

What a shocking response from Julianz. It is bad enough that people have to  fear for their safety and that of their belongings whilst going about their  daily business without then blaming the innocent victim. What sort of world do we live in today? A pretty grim one thats for sure with thieves (from airport chancers to the banksters) and the likes of Julianx's in the world, talk about it being a jungle out there.........jeez I despair.

As for the I-O-M, lovely friendly safe place except for TT week where the visitor gets robbed blind by the hotels who suddenly turn into banksters for the week and exploit the tourists without mercy.

Poppyseed,  So who was to blame, if not the guy and his wife,  even he said he was.

Quote;-     By now you're all saying, you silly dickheads!!!  Ok, but we're (wife and I) both over 70, we just landed at a strange airport after a long flight, we've been given duff car information and we're confused because we can't find our car.

NO JOHNZX.  They said (being 70+ and worldly wise on how selfish and unsympathetic most people are) most prople would be thinking they were to blame but countered this by saying, "..but we're (wife and I) both over 70, we just landed at a strange airport after a long flight, we've been given duff car information and we're confused because we can't find our car."

I have A) every sympathy with them and B) I don't care if they left it outside for 20 minutes let alone a moment.  the only ones at fault are the scumbags who stole their property.  Yes of course we know the police are absolute scroungers from the tax payer, doing little, having allocated and shared sick days and just waiting around for a fat pension and yes we know there are thieving viscious scum bags out there waiting to steal from us so TAKE CARE but I'm sure you are not actually blaming this couple, simply saying in hindsight, they may well behave a lot more carefully in future.

As for TT week. as an ex bike and car racer I can't really advise you not to go during TT week as now I spend quite a lot of the year being ripped off at various Moto GP and F1 circuits but will still go for the atmosphere and excirtement until no doubt my old carcass can't make it any more.  But i also have a litle sympathy as it's hard in the hospitality industry on the ioM as it's so quiet all the rest of the year and you can go at other times and stay at, say TheGglenn Helen which is a lovely countryside hotel for about £50 a night.   If you don't want the adreneline of the TT then go in august or september and enjoy the island for it's quietude and the friendlyness of the natives. Golf is cheap on the island too if you like that sort of thing.

Dear All,

what a very sad lot

they have no egos of any merit

but to make them feel better they have to kick the victims while they are down

what scurrilous cowards - totally sickening

just how can you apologise enough for these dregs of the human race????????????

Regards

Norman

HI,

SPANISH LOCAL PAPER CITED ON 3RD AUG THAT BOGUS POLICE ARE STOPIPING

UNSUSPECTING  CARS ON THE AP-7 AND END UP ROBBING THE PASSENGERS OF

THEIR VALUABLES.NOW, IF THE REAL POLICE KNOW ABOUT THIS WHY AREN'T THEY

DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.IT ALSO SAYS THAT IN ALMOST ALL CASES THE ROBBERS

ARE OF FOREIIGN  ORIGIN , EITHER EASTERN EUROPEAN OR MOROCCANS

AS SPAIN IS GETTING MORE AND MORE EMPOVERISHED CRIMINALITY WILL RISE.

BUT CRIMES COMMITED BY FOREIGNERS MAKE MATTERS WORSE AND QUITE

FRIGHTNING.I DONT THINK THAT THE SPANISH HAVE A GRIP ON CRIME.IN SOME

OF THESE BLOGS PEOPLE ARE SAYING THAT THEY NEVER ENCOUNTERED ANY

CRIME AND ITS ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE LUCKY AND MANAGED TO ( DODGE

THE BULLETS) SO TO SAY .SPAIN USED TO BE A TOP DESTINATION  FOR LOTS

OF REASONS, NOW ONLY FOR ONE REASON ALONE, ALMOST YEAR ROUND GOOD

CLIMATE, IF THAT WERE TO CHANGE MOST EXPATS WOULD RETURN TO THEIR

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN LEAVING SPAIN IN EVEN MORE TROUBLED WATER

IT IS HIGH TIME THE GOVERNMENT TACKLES CRIME ON THE COSTAS AGAINST

EXPATS AND TOURISTS ALIKE MORE SERIOULY AND THROWS THOSE HOOLIGANS

OUT OF THE COUNTRY OR INTO THE LIONS DEN..U SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TAKE

AN EXTRA PAIR OF EYES WITH U WHEN U GO ABROAD.. ULTIMATELY THE COUNTRY

WILL BE THE ONE THAT SUFFERS WHEN THE NUMBERS OF TOURISTS DROP.

RGDS

TO PAPA.

Ho ho, Fairies and witches and 1100's, those were the days. My friend died and he had inherited his house from his mom and to be honest he had left it for many years undisturbed. we called it the witch house because it was so spooky. However when we opened the garage to help with a clear out there was a Morris or Austin 1100 in there and the number was 666 DMN - spooky. The car was so small compared to modern cars - and this was about 10 years ago so would be even more evident now. On Sark where I bought a guest house, the old houses all have "Witches Seats" on chimneys or somewhere prominent!

Regarding the Spanish police, yes they are useless. Regarding the system though it's broken and never to be mended. Those North African scumbags have apparently acquired permanent residency and are free to travel around the EU, as with the Bulgarians and Rumanians etc. etc. The police leave them alone and go for soft targets. I was caught for speeding and the police hauled me over like I was boss of Al Queda - I played up a bit with "Very sorry, not a word of Spanish” but they literally started brandishing the guns and escorted me to the cash point to pay over €200 fine for dangerous driving!!! My friend told me he carries cash in his top pocket and just pays them before they start writing a ticket whenever they pull him over and another friend collapsed at the wheel of his car and the police thought he was drunk and offered to let him off and drive him home for €200 - he said, No drive me to hospital please!!!!

On a more pleasant note I was stopped in the Isle of Man recently by an absolutely stunning police officer (Sonya) who then admitted she just wanted to take a look at my car! She said, "I thought you had no number plates until I saw it was black (Guernsey plate) and then thought, "ooh what a beautiful car".......I wonder in hindsight if her fondness for old cars extends to older men!!?? I should have asked!!!

I'm seriously thinking about becoming BATMAN to tackle these robbers, but 1'm nearly 98 years old   Any younger men on the Forum fancy a go at them? They really are cowards and would run a mile if tackled in this way !!

Have to say once again "the spanish police are useless" and hide behind the fact that they have a gun at their side   We have to give it some thought Why don't they tackle these thugs     Guess why !!   Are they all involved?

Regarding spanish police being in on these robberies, it wouldn't surprise me and I see someone was robbed just as they had cash for their builder.  That's what my friend said, he had the money to pay his builders in cash in his safe and he was robbed at gunpoint and they knew where the safe was and made him open it, threatening his grandchild! I never said anything but thought, "Bet the builder was in on it".
