Spain is so weird in its ways. To describe certain practices as Third World would be offensive to many who live in the Third World. J ust been reading an article in EWN.  A thief having burgled a Jaen house discovered in his loot paedophilia related tapes. Can this be true? The article discloses:

I QUOTE EWN:  He would invite boys of around 10 years old to watch porn films with him, then to touch themselves in front of him, and eventually, when they were over 13, he would have sex with them, as at that age, there is no sentence for consensual sex with minors.

Here too incest is legal it is said as long as the pair, father and daughter, brother and sister don’t have kids. The EU allegedly imposes strict rules of societies mores before non-European nations can apply for membership. Why would they do so. Gary and his cohorts will be catching budget airlines.

Incest is also legal in France (which only re introduced the law if it included rape and with a minor in 2010, before that the incest laws did not apply since Napoleon abolished them), Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Russia. In Germany cousins are OK but not parents, grandparents or children. And that's just the European ones. Why pick on Spain?

The age of consent in Spain is being raised to 15 and the legislation is already going through parliament.
edited to add The age of consent in the Vatican City was only raised from 12 in August of this year.

Almost everyone in the town where I live has the same surname so I had my suspicions about incest being legal here. Now I know!

The UK also has it's own unusual incest laws. In most of the country it's illegal but in Burnley and Oldham it's perfectly legal (or so it seems).

Spain raises age of consent from 13 to 16

Changes agreed in principle in 2009 and expected to come into force this month also raise marriageable age from 14 to 16

Raising the age to 16 brings Spain into line with the Netherlands, Norway, the UK, Russia and Belgium

Spain is to raise the age of consent from 13 to 16 and the minimum age for marriage from 14 to 16.

The change was agreed unanimously in principle by parliament in 2009 under the previous government and is expected to come into force this month.

Adults who have sex with underage children now face from two to six years in prison and up to 12 years if they have performed oral or penetrative sex.

An exception is made in the case of consensual sex with someone under 16 "when the other party is of a similar age or stage of development and maturity", a loose concept that judges will have to define on a case-by-case basis.

Raising the age to 16 brings Spain into line with the UK, Russia, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium. It is 14 in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy and Portugal and 18 in Turkey and Malta. In most European states the law does not specify whether the acts are heterosexual or homosexual.

Teenage marriage is rare in Spain – only four boys and 64 girls under 17 married in 2010 – but in a national survey published two years ago 74% of women born since 1971 said they had lost their virginity before they were 20, nearly twice as many as their mothers' generation.

The rate of teenage pregnancy is low, less than a third of that in the United States. However, a report on sexual health in Spain published on Wednesday said all forms of sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise.

All Spanish children receive sex education classes in the last year of primary school, when they are 11.

Was that a rhetorical question ?

Or did you not realize that they married men who were over 17.
