Hi all, just wondered if anybody can recomend a good anuall travel insurance, i have an appartment in Sucina spain but have always got insurance as i went, i am going to go there more offten so thought it would be better to get a policy for the year for my partner and i, it seems to be a mine feild with a lot of mixed reveiws for all the companys, i have heard M&S are ok but again loads of good and a majoraty of bad reveiws, i have had loads of great advice on hear over the years so im thinking this is the best place to get proper ideas.

                                                                           kind regards john

Hi John,

If you want cheap - Tescos are good.  A bit better quality - Aviva (was Norwich Union).  But there are several internet sites that will give you other less known providers where you can select cover according to your needs - if you exclude travel to North America it's usually a whole lot cheaper.

You say you have an apartment in Spain - don't forget to disclose this in your proposal and check the limitation period is adequate for your needs.

Hi John

When looking for any form of insurance, the price is one of the least important things to look for. The most important things to look for are the cover and exclusions. For example if for example you are flying and do not have a direct flight does the company cover you if the first flight is late and you miss the connection. Also for example if you are flying from 'home' to somewhere and then a few days later you fly to another destination does the policy cover you for missed flights on the second leg. Another 'small print' you need to look at is if you are coming to Spain will you be covered for any medical claim if you do not have your EHIC. Also are you allowed to go to a 'private' hospital or do you HAVE to go to a state hospital. These are only a few of the things you need to look for. My advice is to go to a specialist travel insurance broker. I have used Globelink Insurance and found them very good on claims and if you speak to them they are very helpful and friendly.

If you just go for the cheapest you might find that you will not be covered for the special claim you are making so they wont pay out and you have wasted your money.

Travel insurance which may seem cheap may be bumped up by any existing medical conditions, even though some are covered without extra cost.

if you are waiting for test results, or a diagnosis they won't insure you at all

Remember to mention if you will be doing things like scuba diving, or " dangerous" sports as you have to get extra cover

Remember the cover is null and void if you injure yourself while drunk !

It's a nightmare getting travel insurance when you're older and have any medical conditions, and take a few different tablets.

Even though I have been with the same company several times, each time  I ask for more insurance, I have to go through everything in minute detail, and spend nearly an hour on the phone. When I've spoken to friends about insurance, they say  so and so is cheap, or just ticked the box when booking a flight, yet they do not then go on to tell the insurance company any relevant history,  which means that if they claim, and the company check with their doctor, they will not pay out .

I use Staysure, you speak to a human being, not just tick a box, and they provide cover in Spain and UK.

the cover is good and reasonably priced.

it's not cheap, but it's worthless if you miss bits out!

I use Staysure too I find it easy to get an online quote and declare pre existing medical conditions Compared with other companies they appear competitive and I have used them for years for trips out of Spain I am over 70

Thanks, I have looked at Staysure and it looks ok. I suppose the proof of the pudding is when/if we need to claim.
