Hi all,
yes, they all take payment at the earliest possible. If you pay via debit card that can be as soon as the same day, but certainly within two days, no longer. If paid by credit card it will be taken at your next monthly payment date and forwarded to the seller.
The fact that the flight operators all get our money way up front of the actual flight date, and then have the use of it interest free for a minimum of eight weeks, makes their greedy little add-ons like card charges, check-in charges, checked baggage charges, seat booking etc etc etc, all the more objectionable and unacceptable.
Come the revolution...........

Bob posted earlier "Other companies, EasyJet, BMIbaby and Thomsonfly, only charge your credit card on the day of your outbound flight. "
Er, no, Easyjet take amount almost as fast as we've booked, Bob.

Well, I've just checked. Thomson took my last payment on the day I booked but that was with a debit card. EasyJet didn't take my credit card payment until May when I booked in February, BMIbaby took the credit card payment for the June flight (booked in February) until June nor the January flight (booked the previous November) until January.
Debit card payments straight away, credit cards when the flight goes. Ryanair charged my credit card the day after I booked for both flights this year.
Wonder what the real policy is?

When booking with Jet2, the payment shows online about 3 or 4 days are booking. It took about 7 days for the Ryanair Spanish debit card payment to show, but Barclays said foreign transactions take longer to show.

We all know and accpet the irish wiseguy charges the earth for either debit or credit but in view of excel and others think it wise (where you facility i.e. have a credit card) to book with credit card now.
at least you are covered if ryanair (hopefully) goes same way as excel.
although he will no doubt have stolen the £6 per airport booking even in bankruptcy, you will get his flight fare back of £0.99 (naughty marketing) for flight ticket back and he will pockets the £119 taxes each way.

Yawn !!!!!!!
All "low cost" airlines levy these charges now, why pick on one of them? Oh that's right, Stelios moved into car rental and cinemas, Jet2 management stay quiet, Monarch are better known as a charter airline, etc, etc. At the end of the day, if you don't like the way Ryanair operate, don't fly with them!! Vote with your feet!! Oh of course, thousands are aren't they????

Funny enough I have just spotted this thread and seeing as we have just booked our first fligths with Ryan Air as they have started a new route between Murcia and Birmingham for the winter.
We both were astounded when we booked flights for £35.00 each return (yes we know it is cheap!) to find that the credit charges were £18.00!
However, we discovered if you book with an Electron card there are no fees??? I hate to admit to being frugal but weas we transferred the money into our daughters bank account as she has Electron and used her card details to complete the booking. We have done it twice now and long may it continue!.
Both my husband and I have now applied to our banks for an electron - this tends to be a young persons account possibly becasue there is no overdraft facility but that would be discrimination wouldnt it against us old folks with a good credit rating wouldnt it!

Just booked 2 flights from Liverpool to Alicante for a total of 18.49 pounds each with Electron card!! No charges OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH it does feel good !!!
Can now afford to wait to see if the return flights come down in the knowledge that I won't pay charges for this either !!
Cheers

Having recently booked with Ryanair from Luton to Murcia, I was appalled to see the level of charges for using a Credit Card which bumped up the cost considerably. In the current economic climate it is not worth the risk of not paying by credit card and losing your protection so they have you over a barrel.
However, having noticed that there was no fee for using a Ryanair Creditcard, I decided to enquire and have put my morals to one side and applied for one - simply to avoid paying credit card fees in future.
Whilst I have no intention of using the card for any other purpose, as well as no credit card fees for flights or for the card itself, each £ you spend does go towards an offer to get free flights in the future. For every £250 you spend, you are allegedly entitled to a free flight (not including taxes)
I am hoping they consider bring out additional offers for card holders e.g free priority booking, no luggage costs etc but I wont hold my breath

Carol817, from what can see Mr O'leary is now charging a premium for one way flights. If you re-enter your dates for a return your fare will come down again !!
Another tool in the war against getting a cheap flight as advertised.
