I've got to say that, as frequent posters will know, I fly with Ryanair because it's the cheapest and I have, in general, no axe to grind with them. You pays your money and takes your choice.
Today I booked 2 adults and 1 child under 16 to fly from Madrid to East Mids and had to pay 15€ credit card fee. What I cannot understand is, why, when I am only making ONE transaction, why do I have to pay 5€ for each person ????

Karen - that's what a lot of people want to know, it should be a standard charge for the total amount of the booking ie to cover what Ryanair are having to pay the credit card company.
Instead Ryanair and others are using this as an excuse to get extra money out of you. Anyone booking flights with them are doing all the work and then getting charged for doing it.
By adding the charge to each ticket when you go to pay is definately a con and still the companies way of getting around the displaying of the actual ticket price.
Yes they are a cheap way of travelling compared with flying scheduled but they should be made to comply with the law and stop dangling the unrealistic 99p flights when the true cost of this flight is £25.
As to the passenger tax, I fly from Stansted and have used Easyjet and Ryanair. Easyjets airport charges/taxes are reasonable whereas Ryanair are nearly double the amount, why? Same airport, same charges or just another way of Ryanair the expert of squeezing extra's £'s where they can.
We have an account with Halifax so will see about opening an account to get an Electron card, good advice.
Karen, I believe one of the banks out in Spain issue Electron cards - this has been discussed often but I can't remember which bank it was. May be worth a search of forum if you often book more than one person at a time.

Thanks Semi, usually I am only booking for OH and me, but yesterday I was booking to get the kids home later in the week.
I'll see who does Electron here.
I used to have an Electron years ago in UK and I couldn't use it anywhere then, so I wonder why Ryanair don't charge for that one ?

As sneaky as Ryanair is. Once everyone start usinsg Electron Ryanair will start charge on it like the other cards. Wait and see.
One transaction, one debt card for two tickets, I have been charged £16 (£8 each) card charge. Also £48 for two pieces of luggages even though we will only bring one suitcase back (drop another one in our home in Spain). Monarch allow you pay luggage as single way, not pay for a return journey.

I've just googled Visa Electron and found a whole 4 pages on Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert forum.
Visa Electron is a basic debit card aimed at low waged people.
The site says that there are two banks where you can apply for a card, Halifax Easycash and Co-op Cash Minder, both accounts can be opened on-line or by phone.
Co-op might be a better one to go for as you can top up the account at any Post Office, depends which ever is nearer.
These accounts were set up at the governments insistance for people on benefits and the money in the account is instant access hence the no charge fee from airlines.
Although when everyone starts using these cards the airlines might change their minds.

I've tried to post two replies earlier for Flying Cat so I was surprised that my electron post went through.
Here I go again.
F C - why not apply for the electron card and then book your flights the saving you make on costs will outweigh the the cost of a suitcase. I was going to suggest you book the inward and outward flights separately but this card may not be able to be used abroad. If you apply online you could always ask. Even more savings.

I often listen to Martin Lewis on Radio 2 Friday lunchtimes and that guy with the glasses who's often on the tv talking about the cheap holidays/flights he's been on. They say there's a window when there's a window when the flight prices go lower (to get rid off seats) but then they shoot back up to catch all the people who have to book at the last minute.
Looks like you were lucky.
Me I decide when I want to go and if the price is ok then I'll book if not I'll change my dates. One of the perks of being retired

That's what we do Semi, usually, when we visit UK. However, I had to get the kids back for school. The cost of 3 flying from Murcia to East Midlands with almost all the airlines is around 800€ for the 3 of them.
The are now travelling to madrid 39€ on the bus for 3 ( 5 hours with stops ) , taxi ( 15€ for 3 ) from bus station to Madrid airport, wait 4 hours then fly from Madrid to East Mids at 6.30 am arrive 8 am for 190€ for all 3.
A bit convoluted but they are young ( early 30's and 13 ) and the total cost for all three is around the same price as a ticket for just one.

Seeing that Karen said she booked with Ryanair using her cc & got charged but is with Lloyds ES do you actually get a different cc if you don't stipulate you want an Electron cc ?
Just wondered why Karen was charged.

Guess what? I went to Llodys today asking for a Eletron card. They told me they do not issue it anymore.
Anyone tell me where I can get a Electron card in UK?

Flying Cat - I posted earlier @9.53 only accounts available are with Halifax Easycash and Co-op cash minder both accounts can be opened on-line.
If you get the time read thread on Moneysavingexpert forum, loads of people on there have opened these accounts although they are really aimed at people who had to open accounts to receive benefit money. The information on this site is recent, they do mention Lloyds and that they no longer issue Electron cards.
I apologise for not mentioning that in my previous message. I'm trying to keep my posts short as I'm having trouble with my ISP and finding that most of my posts aren't getting through.

Morerosado and semijubilada,
Many thanks. I have just submitted the application online for opening Eashcash account with Halifax. Also it is enjoyable to read moneysavingexpert forum. I find it is quite fun to play 'cat and mouse' with Ryanair.
