Hi Kathleen,
Great to hear your completion went through, as did ours. Wasn't it lovely to have those keys for the first time?At least you were on the ground floor, we were on the second floor with no lifts and went ikea shopping. But we laughed all the time. Did you go to the pasty shack in LA? Next to the penny farthing. Also had a nice meal in the Bayside when we met up with friends. I think we may even be able to start putting them on the restaurant threads or are we peaking too soon? LOL. Need a pen and paper to write the names of the streets. we are also going over again in May so may be at the same time.
Jane
Sorry asked in other thread name of restaurant and hadn't seen this one. Think i've got it now, in between san pedro and Pilar right? Have you tried the Gwaelod y Garth pub? It's ab fab.

Hi Gina - Ha Ha - just spent 10 minutes answering your question on the other thread - you'll be bored stupid!! Yes been to Gwaelod pub, have a friend in the village and we can sink loads of red wine there!! the food is fab - I was pleasantly surprised to see that the owners had come from the restaurant In Creigiau - no wonder it's so great. Don't get there often tho' cos work takes me away too much.
So glad all went well for everyone moving in - it's such an exciting time and a wonderful feeling! Viva Espana!!

Hi Jane
Yes it was great to have the keys and although no furniture delivered while we were there we did spend time in the apartment and standing on our terrace with big smiles on our faces! Tried the pasty shack one lunch time and also the penny farthing - both great, the helpings in the penny farthing were huge!!!!!
We noticed someone on the second floor that looked like they had just moved in and were setting up terrace table and chairs - I wonder if it was you??? If you spot us in May please give me a wave! You know where we are - the ground floor with the big terrace!

Hi Kathleen
I can see how i confused you. I'm Gina and i'd written the first part of message to you, forgot to put Gina and then the second part was to Jane, so looks like I'd signed it as Jane. I confuse myself half the time. I'd remembered having a conversation with you long time ago about furniture and you mentioned you were on ground floor of euro marina? Please tell me I didn't get it wrong again LOL. No it wasn't me on your roof I'm up in San Javier near Dos Mares but spend quite a bit of time down in LA. Have friends down there. Hope you managed to get your furniture sorted out. We'll be there in May so hope to see you around and about then.

Gina - have you got caught lurking on a roof? Wot u like!!
Has anyone tried the Hindustani restaurant in LA - round the corner from Zarcos? Have heard its good but when I went to look at the menu it was closed & there was no menu in the window. Got a fussy eater in the family & when all else fails he has to make do with a plate of chips - he'll wake up one day & realise all the good food he's missing out on! Anyone been - is it any good - & do I have to feed him at home before we try it?

Annie,
No I haven't been and where is this Zarcos of which you speak??? Is it in the pasty square?
We've got lots to try out next visit.

Gina - Zarcos is a bar just up from Angelas - a lot more spanish seem to go in there than the Celt etc. We found it on our first trip to LA when house hunting - it was one of the only places open on a cold, windy & rainy week in March! It's only small but it's a good place to go for a pre dinner drink.
Found we had to book at some of the restaurants this time to be certain of a table - must mean the area is getting busier as haven't had to do that before.

Hi Annie
Angelas is the pizza place on the corner right? Where there was a santa grotto at Christmas? I think I know where Zarcos is, past pasty and on the same side? Shouldn't be so bad when the sun is out next time. Everone had booked tables because of the rain so we should be lucky next visit. Other than that we could always get a doggy bag and sit on the beach.

You're in the right place bud - sun out next time? - please god! Entertaining a bored teenager when I've 'ruined her social life' by 'dragging' her to spain & 'it's raining' is sooooo much fun!! Only joking - she's a good kid, but does enjoy it better when the sun is out - as do we all!!
Not sure about the doggy bag - I'll spend an hour (or so) in Zarcos & meet you at the restaurant later

Hi All,
Thought I'd just post a recommend for La Diva restaurant in the plaza at Los Alcazares (oppposite the penny farthing). Super meal. Went there with friends (Annie, good choice mate) and had a great evening. Plenty of choice on the menu too so the kids were catered for as well.

Seconded Gina - great night pal - although have heard a rumour that they are currently out of wine & vodka . Had the Thai prawn red curry at La Diva another night & it was the best I've tasted so far (love hot food so tend to be a bit of a connoisseur).
Can anyone recommend a good italian restaurant in the area? We usually go to La Sombra but someone mentioned there was a good one going down towards the town hall in LA? A spanish neighbour told me about it but after asking him a couple of times what it was called & still not catching the name, gave up. Must practice my spanish

Hi Annie,
Did I get the whereabouts right on La Diva? Is it the plaza? You know the proper name for the square.
The Big House in Santiago is fab for Chinese. Just on roundabout before you hit the main town. Sorry everyone don't know the name of the street but will try to find out. Would like some recommends for real spanish food restaurants if anyone has any? Thanks

Hi
We had Christmas lunch at La Encarnacion part of the old Hotel, which is on the sea front in LA, fantastic food lovely suroundings if alittle more expensive than some, but worth every penny. Have had good food at El Patio and they did squeeze us in on a very busy night but you really want to be a meat eater to enjoy it.
If you fancy a trip go to Cabo de Palos small fishing village and eat at Restaurante Miramar on the harbour front, really friendly and helpfull staff and the food was good too. There is also a boat which will take you out diving and then cook you Paella.
I agree that the Chinease restaurant in Santiago De La Riberia if very good, again great staff, good menu and not too expensive.
Finally Restaurante Tropical in LA near Real de Feria parade of shops, has the best Tapas we have found so far.

Hi Za
That's great info. Thanks .
I remember going down to cabo de Palos with our agent one afternoon. You are right it is a lovely little place. Will look out for the restaurant and boat trip. Great.
Could you just give me a little bit more on directions for Tropical, not sure where Real de Feria is. Is it the little square near La ncarnacion by the church? Or am I way out?

Hi Russell,
Welcome to the forum. Same here, we completed in January so are more or less finished with the furniture shopping. Looking forward to chilling in August. Had a scream in May and weather was fab. The Big House in Santiago de ribera is a great chinese and the staff are so friendly, also we can walk there so nice to have a few drinkies!! LOL. It' just on the roundabout by the petrol station before you hit the main town street, to your left. well worth a visit. Annie is the specialist on the indians and there is also a new wok buffet just opened in LA. Haven't tried it but have heard good reports. Great for kids as they can help themselves to what they fancy.
If you are around in August give us a shout, looks like we are going to have a meet up, so should be a good laugh. Balsicus isn't far so we are all more or less a short taxi drive away.
I always take the business with me and watch it on the flight over to Spain. Never get tired of watching it.
Have you seen Pirates 3 yet then? Noticed your avatar. The kids said it was awesome. Looking forward to seeing it myself.
Wish i was going next thursday have a great time.

Hi Gina, - I too take the business away with me, have copies at home, in Balsicas and if i'm away with my work....class film, the music, cast and settings are excellent - should have been a bigger hit movie than it was for sure ! yeah Ive seen Pirates 3, it has been slated a wee bit but it is a great movie....just under 3 hours pass by in no time, think all 3 pirates movies are good fun.
Thanks for the restaurant info.....will be trying out the chinese for sure.....a week tonight I'll be on my sundeck with a couple of bottles of red !!!!!!! unfortunately i'm not over August,I'm there most of July, then back mid October..... would be great to meet up if your around at all,

Sorry Russell - Gina's just given me a nudge on the Mar Menor chitty thread to answer your question re indian restaurants Wouldn't say I was an expert by any stretch of imagination (but do like a good curry ).
Could try The Run restaurants in either Los Alcazares or Los Belones - both do a varied asian menu. Have heard that Parras indian restaurant in Los Belones is good for either eat in or takeaway. Otomatua in LA does Chilian & authentic indian & has an amazing reputation with a lot of my friends. If you google you will find it. La Diva also does a good Thai curry.
For an indian takeaway try www.casa-india.com there is a map on the website that shows where it's located. We,ve had great meals from them & they will deliver.
For a chinese - the Wok buffets get good reports & I also would like to try the Festiva Chinese at Cabo de Palos for a change. Cabo has the reputation for great seafood restaurants but, as I'm the only one in my family thats loves seafood, don't think I,ve much chance.

Hi All
Looks like we are getting some great info on restaurants together. I can't remember the name of the one on the beach front, on corner opposite the yacht club in Santiago but have been there a few times. Do great tapas and a la carte. Begins with G so will take notes next time. Promise. .
Eileen,
When you took the Mar Menor boat trip did you go to the fish restaurant this side (next to yacht club) or the other side in La Manga? Have been to Miguels, fabulous. Let me know which boat trip you went on as it sounds good.
