Cambells restaurant/bar in Roda village ,mar menor just past the entrance to Roda Golf resort has only been opened a month or so ,the food is contemporary & was cooked to perfection, try the shoulder of lamb ,you won't be disappointed , six of us went ,had a starter & main course plus a couple of drinks a piece ,it worked out at €27 each ,well worth it and will going again asap.

Had a great time recently and thought I'd tell you about the yachtsman on San Pedro Marina, just past Lo Pagan.
Lovely full cooked breakfast overlooking the marina at 2.50 euros.
I noticed that they do a carvery and a menu del dia at good prices too so will try that next visit.

I have been to Alhambra a few times now and it is great. Last time had the pork for 8.50€ it was spot in. The grill chef is argentinian who I have met before he worked there at another restaurant where the steaks were very tasty !

Hi,
Interesting reading these posts - it's always good to hear first hand accounts, esp. when trying to find somewhere to take fussy visiting family...! On recommendation from some friends who live in La Manga we took a drive down the coast to Los Nietos and had Sunday dinner at Vivas and were very impressed. We took a group of 10 without reservation (thought the other half had done it and vice versa!) but they were very accomodating and made us all feel very welcome. The food was fantastic with a home cooked flavour just as you'd expect from a good Sunday lunch back in Blighty, but with the best sea views! The owner told me about thier paella's in the summer which were apparantly cooked to order on their large terrace - can't wait! They've only been open a few months but seem to have the basics spot on.
We also visited Via Romana in the neighbouring village of Los Belomes later in the week and enjoyed excellent homemade pizzas in a nice busy restaurant.
It seems you sometimes have to be prepared to drive a little to find the best places!
Looking forward to more recommendations!

Can anyone recommend a restaurant (preferably Spanish and cheap!) along La Manga (we're staying at Hotel Entremares) of Cabo de Palos? Also, anywhere in Santiago de la Ribera for menu del dia as we plan to go there tomorrow morning for the market.
Many thanks.

If you go a bit further round to San Pedro del Pinatar you should try La Tabernita behind the Yatchsman at the San Pedro del Pinatar Marina....Piluka is a great host and goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. You can enjoy Paella, Tapas and even Indian food

Sounds nice Jazll, have been to the yachtsman so will try that one next visit.
Sue, there is a lovely little cafe/restaurant on the front in Santiago opposite where the boat trip goes over to La Manga. It's called cafe Vittoria and does great tapas. We go often for a great steak too. Very reasonable. If you go further up the prom there are a few places. Opposite the yacht club is La Gaviota and they do really nice food too. I have seen menu del dia advertised.
Have a nice time

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately we left too early to see your reply, Candyfloss, as we had to get the 9.30 bus to catch the first ferry. We´ll bear them in mind for next time though.
We ended up in Bar Centro Mar (I think that´s the right name) and thought the menu del día was great value. Mostly Spanish people in there, though we overheard two Brits ordering platos combinados - we were tempted to rush over and tell them the MDD would have been a better deal!

Hi Candyfloss
It was on the main road running up from the sea front towards tourist office and market. We just followed the people heading up the road with their shopping trolleys! We spotted it on the right hand side on our way to look at the market, and as it had a wide choice for me (I´m difficult as I don´t eat meat and don´t like tomatoes!) we went back there when we were hungry. If you do go there, let me know what you think.

Hi All
Had a good time in Spain, weather was perfick .
Just had to tell you about a new place that we went to and had a great time.
It's called Fat Catz Bar and Grill. It was formerly The Barracuda and has now been taken over by Paul, Marie and Sarah. It is a Bar and grill and also has a Sunday lunch carvery. I have to say, we had a ball. Fab atmosphere and we were made soooooooo welcome.
If you check out Fat Catz Bar And Grill Santiago De La Ribera on facebook you can see the details of the meals and carvery.
Good food, good music and great company. Will defo be going back in the summer.
