Sorry I have not been on here for a while,so much been going on! I am STILL in Spain as I STILL do not have a Birth Certificate for my 14 month old Son!! The Civil Registry seem to be going out of their way to be as difficult as possible. I have told them repeatedly that I am a single mother with 2 small children,no money and living in a 2 bedroom apartment with my elderly parents and all the do is shrug. They are rude,at best! The Consulate can do nothing and have told me 4 times they will call me back and never do. I am now in the position that I have to go back to the UK with my daughter in order to get some money and I have to leave my young son with my parents.

I could go on and on about the mistakes the Civil Registry have made but i will not bore you. Needless to say, I am no longer sad to say goodbye to this country,i hope,after I get this Birth Certificate,that I never see this country again. My son cannot register for schools or a doctor and cannot get his vaccinations,is this the way EU citizens are treated in our modern times,i wonder.

I am trying to find ANYONE with some authority to help me and my children. I am sure there must be a way to get a free lawyer or someone to work on our behalf. Someone in the Civil Registry should be sacked for the mistakes and general couldnt care less attitude they have shown my family but I dont know where to turn to get help!

so sorry to read this. That really is out of order being treated like that, and even more so when young children are involved. As for the EU???.  We are told we must tow their line, but when we need them to represent us, they don't want to know......'' we can't interfere with Spains laws''   Could you try Citezans advice in the UK?, (or is there one in Spain?)  they might have an idea?

Hopefully someone in Spain will come along here soon who can help you?.

Have you tried Costa Advice Bureau in Estepona, as Myra, Antonio and team are always glad to help if they can.

Sorry to hear about your problems.  Have you tried Myra at Costa Advice Bureau, who posts on here on a regular basis? Their website is at: http://costaadvicebureau.com/.  Also, of course, there is the wonderful Maria who writes for EOS about many different legal issues, and is always generous with her advice.

Just spotted that TechNoApe has made exactly the same suggestion about Costa Advice Bureau!  Must be a good omen.

It will be almost impossible to get a free advice apart from the Cosulate . Go in person to the British Cosolute in Malaga. I have a friend in San Pedro who may be able to offer some advice, I will ask him tomorrow.

The British Consulate in Malaga is open to the public, opening hours (08.30 - 13.30 for visitors and 08.00 - 16.00 for telephone enquiries).

Yes I was going to suggest the Costa Advice Bureau they seem to do a really good job. Myra does have a site on facebook as well if you into that.

thank you all for your kind words. I have heard about the CAB but I do not have €95 to give them im afraid! There are 3 adults and 2 babies living off 2 pensions in this house and I have just got the money together to get back to the UK. My marriage has broken down due to the stress of having no money,however,i hope things with my husband can be salvaged when we are in a better situation.

It is hard to believe that the British Embassy are willing to leave a British Citizen with 2 babies in this position and when I do go back to England I will see who I can talk to about this as the Embassy told me there are many others in the same situation as me.

In the mean time, if there is anyone that is willing and able to help me ,with no reward other than doing something amazing for a family, and maybe stopping me from TOTALLY losing my mind! please get in touch!

surely the Costa Advice Bureau don't charge e95 just for advice do they?  I assumed it was service like the UK, version, designed to help people when they are down on their luck, not rip them off!. And the British Embassy no good either?. What a shower!

Hold on in there, there must be someone who reads the forums who can hopefully point you in the right direction.

 EPM, sorry to hear about your predicament.  Try PMing Maria to see if she can at least guide you in the right direction.

Goodstitch, Costa Advice Bureau are a private company unlike in the UK where they are a registered charity, so they do charge but the fee is actually very reasonable as you can use them as much as you need for those 12 months.

I hope you get some helpful guidance very soon.

the lady used to post help using lawyers at reduced prices but it seemed to fizzle out and she doesn't seem to post any more or am I not looking in the right places?

thanks for putting me right on that.  So is there no equivalent in Spain to the CAB without being charged?.  Once again it makes you realise just how much we take for granted in the UK. I've used them and the office of fair trading on several occasions, but if I was charged for the service would I have done it?. it would certainly make checking your rights much harder and another consideration for those looking to move.

I thought the Defensor del Pueblo was for these sort or things? More info here

We signed up ages ago, they are great, very friendly and very helpful, and it's nice to know that if you do get a problem and need some help and advice, you can turn to them.

All for just over 26 cents per day, that's 21.5p at today's exchange rate!

yes, we are trying to help, which is why I mentioned the Spanish version of the CAB in the first place. I'm sorry if  my suprise at no free advice hurts you so much, but your criticism would probably be better aimed the system that doesn't provide free help?. If more people like you did that, then perhaps EPM might have got the help she needed without having to find e95, when things are tight for her.
