i enquired and got a quote from a company to put WiFi hotspots in the village. They came and did a survey and their costs to install the necessary hotspots was over €30000 .and usage was about €20 per month..i passed the quote to AEA for consideration. I would buy a dongle from someone like Vodafone which some have done.

John, I was thinking of getting the 3G dongle too. Do you get a UK or a Spanish subscription.
If UK would you incur punitive premium roaming charges?
What's your experience on this?

i have used one in UK and found it quite slow...i prefer the speed of wifi at the internet cafe. As it is basically a mobile phone i imagine the costs wil be expensive to roam in Spain...i will ask some people i know for their experience

John,
I had a dialogue with VIP Wifi as you know and even a site visit and they agreed the house was ideal as a hot spot, they have now written to me to say they can no longer do it.
However I have bought an external usb wifi adapter, 10m cable and made a metal reflector for it and I am now able to pick up many AP's.
I will be using my neighbour with his agreement.

Paul,
Neale used his vodafone 3G plug in to get internet access from our terrace (had to be right by flowerbeds to get satelite) as he had to work out there last time. I think he was thankful his company were paying the bill as it was pretty hefty. I seem to remember him saying you pay per amount downloaded - will ask.

Jeff..VIP were too expensive i feel but i have details of another provider and i will contact them but i suspect we are too far down the coast to connect to their network...i belive though that Telefonica can be used in the development.

Hi all,
I have just organised to get a Telefonica line installed and it relatiely in-expensive. There is a one of admin fee of 68.44€, installation is free and monthly line rental is 15.64€ (all are subject to IVA). You apply online by filling in an application form, they contact you then install the line. I had some problems communicating with them as they state its Telefonica in English, but I was never contacted by an English speaking advisor, so had to get a Spanish speaking friend to deal with it for me. All going well my line should be installed on Friday.
I have also looked into the WiFi internet package that they offer but am going to hold off at the moment, as I won't be all that frequent a user. I guess I could connect through a dial up connection if required via a modem.
Go to telefonicainenglish for all the details.
Another option is getting the Telefonica line installed then using Zefone for WiFi, check out their website for more details.
Ian.
